Lead Mechanical Engineer

Mission Critical Infrastructure | Owner's Side

  • Location: Remote (U.S.) Compensation: $180,000-$250,000 Base Salary + Annual Bonus + RSUs + 100% Employer-Paid Benefits
  • A leading owner and developer of large-scale digital infrastructure is seeking a Lead Mechanical Engineer to support the design and delivery of next-generation data center campuses across North America.
  • This is a senior-level individual contributor position offering the opportunity to remain deeply technical while influencing some of the industry's most complex and innovative mission-critical projects. The successful candidate will serve as a key mechanical engineering subject matter expert, partnering with internal stakeholders, consultants, contractors, and operations teams throughout the project lifecycle.

Responsibilities

  • Provide technical leadership for mechanical systems supporting hyperscale and mission-critical developments.
  • Review and guide designs for cooling infrastructure, chilled water systems, HVAC equipment, and heat rejection systems.
  • Support site selection, feasibility studies, due diligence efforts, and infrastructure planning.
  • Develop and maintain mechanical engineering standards and best practices.
  • Collaborate with external engineering consultants to ensure consistency, quality, and system reliability.
  • Participate in design reviews, technical risk assessments, constructability reviews, and value engineering initiatives.
  • Support equipment procurement, factory testing, commissioning, startup, and operational turnover.
  • Evaluate emerging technologies and cooling strategies for high-density compute and AI-driven workloads.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline.
  • 10+ years of experience supporting mission-critical, data center, industrial, energy, or other critical infrastructure projects.
  • Strong understanding of chilled water plants, HVAC systems, cooling technologies, and infrastructure reliability principles.
  • Experience supporting projects from design through construction and commissioning.
  • Ability to provide owner-side technical oversight and effectively manage consultant deliverables.
  • Strong communication and stakeholder management skills.

Preferred Experience

  • Data center owner, developer, hyperscale, colocation, or mission-critical consulting experience.
  • Experience with liquid cooling or high-density computing environments.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license preferred.
  • Experience developing engineering standards across multiple projects or sites.
