Director of Product Management - Digital (Data Engineering) | Remote Contract to Hire
We're partnering with a leading Life Insurance organization that's looking for an experienced Director of Product Management to help shape and evolve its enterprise data platform and data engineering capabilities.
This isn't simply a platform oversight role. We're looking for someone who can understand complex business and regulatory needs, translate them into a clear data product strategy, and make informed decisions around prioritization, trade-offs, and roadmap direction - not just guide technical delivery.
You'll own the data product roadmap and work closely with Engineering, Architecture, Data Governance, and Business stakeholders to build, govern, and scale trusted, reusable data products across the organization.
Key responsibilities include:
Owning and driving product strategy and roadmap for enterprise data platform and data engineering capabilities.
Translating business and regulatory requirements into a clear data product roadmap for Engineering to execute against.
Making prioritization and build-vs-buy decisions, backed by clear reasoning and stakeholder alignment.
Partnering closely with Engineering and Architecture to define what gets built and why.
Establishing and championing data governance, quality, and compliance standards across data products.
Leading and developing a data product or data engineering team, driving accountability and outcomes.
Enabling self-service analytics, AI/ML use cases, and reusable data assets across business lines.
What we're looking for:
First and foremost, a strong Product leader with genuine data product or data platform ownership experience - someone who can set direction and defend trade-offs, not just oversee delivery.
Director-level (or equivalent scope) Product Management experience, ideally within a data platform, data engineering, or enterprise data environment.
Comfortable operating with real autonomy - able to define strategy and priorities, not just execute someone else's plan.
Direct experience with cloud data platforms (AWS, GCP, or Azure) and modern data stack tools such as Snowflake, Databricks, dbt, Kafka, or Airflow is a strong plus.
Experience leading data governance, quality, or compliance initiatives is highly valued.
Experience building or leading a data engineering or data product team is desirable.
Experience within Life Insurance, Financial Services, Banking, FinTech, or another highly regulated environment is desirable - especially where you've had to balance governance, security, and business speed.
We're looking for someone who can bridge the gap between Product, Engineering, Architecture, and Governance, and make clear, evidence-based decisions on what gets built.
