- Tax Analyst / US Operations Analyst
- Location: New York, NY (Hybrid – Onsite 2-3 days per week)
- Duration: 9-Month Contract (Potential Extension)
- Schedule: Monday-Friday, 8:30 AM – 5:00 PM (37.5 hours/week; occasional overtime may be required)
- About the Role
- We are seeking a detail-oriented Tax Analyst / US Operations Analyst to join our U.S. Tax Operations team within a leading global financial institution. This role offers an excellent opportunity to gain exposure to U.S. tax information reporting, withholding operations, and regulatory compliance while working in a collaborative banking environment.
- The successful candidate will support daily tax operations, reconciliations, IRS reporting requirements, and year-end tax filing activities. This position is ideal for a professional with a strong background in tax reporting, operational controls, and financial services.
- Key Responsibilities
- Perform daily reconciliations of Non-Resident Alien (NRA) withholding tax and adjustment journals using vendor applications and Microsoft Excel.
- Reconcile U.S. tax payments and quarter-monthly deposits submitted to the Internal Revenue Service (IRS).
- Review, investigate, and resolve cost basis reporting discrepancies and operational breaks.
- Partner with external tax and cost basis vendors to ensure timely issue resolution.
- Organize and facilitate weekly U.S. Tax Operations meetings, including agenda preparation and status reporting.
- Support year-end tax reporting processes, including preparation, testing, reconciliation, and production of IRS Forms 1099 and 1042-S.
- Maintain and update operational procedures and process documentation.
- Respond promptly to internal inquiries related to client tax reporting and tax forms.
- Identify process improvements, operational efficiencies, and risk mitigation opportunities.
- Assist with special projects and additional operational deliverables as required.
- Required Qualifications
- Minimum 2 years of experience in an Operations Analyst, Tax Analyst, or related role.
- Strong understanding of U.S. Tax Information Reporting and Withholding (IRW).
- Knowledge of:
- NRA Withholding Tax
- FATCA Reporting
- IRS Forms 1099-DIV, 1099-INT, 1099-MISC, 1099-B, 1099-NEC, and 1042-S
- Minimum 2 years of experience supporting tax reporting, tax filing, and cost basis reporting processes.
- Advanced Microsoft Excel skills, including:
- Pivot Tables
- VLOOKUP/XLOOKUP
- Large dataset reconciliation and analysis
- Strong analytical, investigative, and reconciliation skills.
- Ability to review transactional data, identify discrepancies, and take corrective action.
- Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working with Broadridge or similar tax/vendor reporting systems.
- Previous experience within a large bank, brokerage, custodian, or financial institution.
- Exposure to securities processing, investment operations, or tax operations environments.
- Education
- Bachelor's Degree or Diploma in Business, Finance, Accounting, Economics, or a related field.
