Summary

Position Highlights:

The Senior Foundation Accounting Analyst plays a critical role in ensuring the financial integrity, stewardship, and transparency of Foundation funds that support lifesaving research, patient care, and institutional priorities. Reporting to the Director of Foundation Finance, this role serves as a trusted financial partner—overseeing fund accounting, reconciliations, reporting, and compliance across a diverse portfolio of philanthropic funds.

Select Responsibilities

Accounting/Budgeting: Prepare and review monthly journal entries, reconciliations, and

fund/account analyses in accordance with GAAP and Foundation policies. Maintain and oversee the Foundation accounting subledger to ensure accurate and timely fund balances. Assist with preparation and maintenance of departmental operational budget. Prepare routine expense analysis. Assist with preparation of audits, IRS Form 990, endowment interest allocations, and internal compliance reviews. Partner with Foundation Finance Specialist to ensure accuracy of end of month cash reconciliation and assist with routine expense management.

Financial Reporting and Analysis: Lead monthly, quarterly, and year-end fund balance reporting, including dissemination to clinical, research, and administrative stakeholders. Support forecasting, trend analysis, and strategic financial planning initiatives tied to philanthropic funds.

Interpret impacts to fund balances from revenue/expenses transaction activity. Review, interpret, and analyze financial and statistical data as needed.

Fund Management: Create new funds as requested, maintain existing funds, and monitor

funds for accuracy and completeness, ensure listing is accurately stated on financial dashboards. Ensure existing funds are spent according to donor intent.

Cross Functional Collaboration: Manage and monitor Foundation funds and sub-accounts to ensure proper use in alignment with donor intent as well as institutional guidelines. Review and approve requests for fund distributions, serving as a financial advisor to internal account officers.

Mentoring/Training: Collaborate with Development Operations, Accounting, Research

Finance, and other internal partners to improve fund management processes and financial controls.

End-of Month Accounting Reconciliation Process: Lead key aspects of monthly close process, including preparation and analytical review of cash, revenue, and expense reports, as well as variance explanations.

Credentials And Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance required.
  • Minimum of four (4) years of professional experience in accounting, auditing, or financial analysis.
  • Experience must include: Preparing journal entries, reconciliation, and financial reports.
  • Analyzing complex financial data and resolving discrepancies.
  • Advanced Excel skills and experience working with financial systems.
  • Strong attention to detail, documentation, and internal controls.
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to partner effectively with non-finance stakeholders.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and process-improvement mindset.
  • Experience supporting audits, compliance reporting, and financial governance.

Preferred

  • Experience in nonprofit or healthcare accounting environments.
  • Prior experience supporting philanthropic or restricted funds.
  • Experience with donor and accounting systems such as Raiser’s Edge and/or Financial Edge.
  • Knowledge of nonprofit accounting principles and regulatory requirements.
  • Advanced knowledge of non-profit accounting; prior experience completing journal entries for

revenue and expense accounts

Previous experience working with a Foundation accounting software system
