- Senior Data Engineer – Portfolio Reporting & Business Intelligence
- Location: Lansing, MI (Hybrid – 2–3 Days Onsite)
- Pay Rate: $55–$60/hour (W-2)

- Position Overview
- We are seeking an experienced Senior Data Engineer – Portfolio Reporting & Business Intelligence to design, develop, and support enterprise reporting and analytics solutions for a large-scale portfolio management environment.
- In this role, you'll partner with portfolio managers, project managers, business stakeholders, and technical teams to transform data from multiple enterprise systems into meaningful dashboards, executive reporting, and actionable business intelligence. The ideal candidate has strong SQL and data engineering experience, a passion for analytics, and the ability to translate complex business requirements into scalable reporting solutions.
- Key Responsibilities
- Business Intelligence & Reporting
- Design, develop, and maintain enterprise dashboards, executive scorecards, and reporting solutions.
- Build standardized portfolio and project reporting to support governance and executive decision-making.
- Develop KPIs, performance metrics, and visualizations that provide meaningful business insights.
- Automate recurring reports to improve accuracy, consistency, and efficiency.
- Produce executive-level reports and ad hoc analytics for leadership and business stakeholders.
- Data Engineering
- Design and maintain data pipelines integrating multiple enterprise data sources.
- Develop, optimize, and maintain complex SQL queries, stored procedures, and transformation processes.
- Design scalable data models supporting enterprise reporting and analytics.
- Ensure data quality, integrity, and consistency across reporting environments.
- Recommend improvements to data architecture and reporting infrastructure.
- Analytics & Performance Management
- Analyze portfolio, financial, operational, project, and governance data.
- Identify trends, risks, bottlenecks, and improvement opportunities.
- Perform root cause analysis and provide data-driven recommendations.
- Develop predictive reporting and trend analysis to support proactive decision-making.
- Monitor data quality and reporting performance.
- Business Analysis & Collaboration
- Gather and document business and technical reporting requirements.
- Translate business needs into technical reporting and dashboard solutions.
- Facilitate meetings with business stakeholders to define KPIs and reporting priorities.
- Create documentation including data definitions, metadata, technical specifications, and reporting standards.
- Collaborate closely with technical teams, business users, and leadership throughout solution development.
- Continuous Improvement
- Identify opportunities to automate manual reporting processes.
- Recommend enhancements to reporting capabilities and business intelligence solutions.
- Support reporting standards, governance, and best practices.
- Provide documentation, knowledge transfer, and technical guidance to internal teams.
- Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Data Science, Business Analytics, Mathematics, Engineering, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
- 3–7 years of experience in data engineering, business intelligence, analytics, or a related discipline.
- Experience designing, developing, and maintaining enterprise reporting and business intelligence solutions.
- Strong SQL development and data transformation experience.
- Experience integrating and analyzing data from multiple enterprise systems.
- Experience developing dashboards and executive reporting using Microsoft Power BI or similar BI platforms.
- Experience gathering business requirements and translating them into reporting solutions.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and root cause analysis skills.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities while working independently and collaboratively.
- Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with Project Portfolio Management (PPM) platforms such as Clarity, ServiceNow PPM, Planview, or Microsoft Project Online.
- Experience with Microsoft Power BI, Microsoft Fabric, Azure Data Factory, Azure SQL, or Microsoft SQL Server.
- Experience with enterprise data warehousing and semantic data models.
- Experience building automated reporting solutions using APIs, ETL processes, scripting, or data integration tools.
- Experience supporting portfolio management, financial reporting, governance, or executive analytics.
- Experience working in large enterprise or public sector environments.
- Familiarity with Agile, Scrum, Kanban, or PMI project methodologies.
