Overview:

We are seeking a Healthcare Data Analyst who will support our NYS Agency client with 1115 Waiver implementation through strengthened data management and governance practices. The consultant will analyze Medicaid claims and encounter data, develop and optimize SQL queries, and create Tableau dashboards that translate complex findings into actionable insights. This role will also promote data integrity, documentation, metadata management, and data stewardship across technical and business stakeholders.

Duties:

  • Query and analyze Medicaid claims and encounter data from the Medicaid Data Warehouse (MDW).
  • Write, optimize, and troubleshoot complex SQL queries to extract meaningful data.
  • Interpret data trends, anomalies, and key metrics to inform decision-making and operational improvements.
  • Collaborate with technical and non-technical stakeholders to present data-driven insights.
  • Create and maintain Tableau dashboards or similar visualization tools to display analytical findings.
  • Ensure data integrity and consistency across multiple data sources.
  • Maintain clear documentation of all queries, processes, and analyses for transparency and reproducibility.
  • Support strengthened data management practices and governance frameworks, including metadata management and data stewardship, for NYS 1115 Waiver implementation.
  • Mandatory Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Data Analytics, Computer Science, Statistics, Public Health, or a related field.
  • 2+ years of experience working with NYS Medicaid data.
  • 4+ years of experience analyzing healthcare claims and encounter data.
  • Strong knowledge of Medicaid data, including common tables, relationships, and reporting metrics.
  • Advanced SQL skills, including the ability to write, optimize, and troubleshoot large, complex queries.
  • Experience analyzing data from the Medicaid Data Warehouse (MDW).
  • Experience creating and maintaining Tableau dashboards or comparable data visualization solutions.
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to explain complex data concepts to technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Desirable Qualifications:
  • Experience working with NYS government agencies or healthcare systems.
  • Healthcare consulting experience in a Business Analyst or Data Analyst capacity.
  • Experience with metadata management, data stewardship, and public-sector data governance frameworks.
  • Exposure to statistical tools or programming languages such as Python or R.
