  • The Opportunity
  • Highspring is seeking a Database Engineer to join a high-performing team responsible for enterprise-scale database platforms and data infrastructure. This role is ideal for a technology professional who is passionate about data, database performance, and platform modernization.
  • You will contribute to the engineering, optimization, and evolution of large-scale transactional database environments while supporting strategic modernization initiatives involving cloud technologies and next-generation data platforms. The position offers the opportunity to collaborate closely with technical and business stakeholders, participate in architectural discussions, and influence the future direction of critical data services.
  • What You’ll Do
  • Engineer and support enterprise database platforms across large database estates, including Sybase, DB2, and emerging database technologies.
  • Analyze and optimize database performance through query tuning, indexing strategies, workload analysis, and capacity planning.
  • Design, test, and implement database changes with a strong focus on resiliency, quality, and operational excellence.
  • Participate in database modernization and migration initiatives, including transitions toward platforms such as Snowflake and SingleStore where applicable.
  • Perform database version upgrades, patching activities, and platform lifecycle management.
  • Improve operational readiness through automation, standardization, and process optimization.
  • Support database deployment and distribution strategies across cloud-based environments.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams in an Agile delivery model while balancing speed, stability, and governance.
  • Contribute to technical discussions, architecture reviews, and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Partner with geographically distributed teams to deliver reliable and scalable data solutions.

  • Core Skills Required
  • Intermediate knowledge of major relational database platforms, including Sybase and DB2.
  • Experience or strong interest in modern data platforms such as Snowflake and SingleStore.
  • Strong Python scripting skills for automation, diagnostics, tooling, and data utilities.
  • Working knowledge of Unix/Linux operating systems.
  • Database performance tuning and optimization expertise.
  • Understanding of database resiliency, scalability, and operational best practices.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Preferred Qualifications
  • Knowledge of logical and physical data modeling concepts.
  • Understanding of normalization and dimensional modeling techniques.
  • Experience with Git or other version control systems.
  • Familiarity with data replication technologies, including CDC, transactional replication, and streaming-based architectures.
  • Experience working within Agile delivery frameworks such as Scrum or Kanban.
  • CI/CD mindset and experience supporting database delivery practices.
  • Experience collaborating within geographically distributed teams.
