About The Role

The HR Technology Analyst role at Toronto Metropolitan University is a key liaison position that bridges the gap between HR Subject Matter Experts and IT service providers. The successful candidate will be responsible for translating complex business requirements into detailed functional specifications to support the development, configuration, testing, and implementation of HR systems. This position plays a vital role in ensuring that HR technology solutions align with organizational needs and are effectively integrated into university operations. The analyst will participate in requirements gathering, system testing, and user acceptance testing, providing ongoing support for HR systems enhancements and updates. The role requires a strong understanding of HR technology stacks, including Oracle PeopleSoft and ServiceNow, alongside excellent analytical, communication, and project management skills. The incumbent will work closely with various stakeholders to ensure system functionality meets business objectives while maintaining comprehensive documentation and adherence to best practices. This position offers an opportunity to contribute to the university’s strategic HR initiatives and technological advancements, supporting a diverse and inclusive academic environment.

Qualifications

  • Completion of a post-secondary degree in Information Technology Management, Computer Science, Business Administration, Human Resources, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 3 to 5 years of relevant experience working with HR systems, particularly Oracle PeopleSoft products and PeopleTools.
  • Proficiency in writing and understanding SQL, with experience in normalized data and complex database structures.
  • Experience translating HR business requirements into application functionality, including process design, configuration, and testing, preferably within higher education or public sector organizations.
  • Knowledge of PeopleSoft HCM functionality and related modules.
  • Strong understanding of relational databases and designing complex reporting extracts.
  • Excellent analytical skills to evaluate functional requirements against technological constraints and propose effective solutions.
  • Understanding of Data Architecture principles and technology infrastructure, including servers, networks, and relational database systems such as Oracle.
  • Familiarity with emerging HR systems and web-based applications like ServiceNow.
  • Initiative-driven with the ability to work independently while collaborating effectively within teams.
  • Strong listening, oral, and written communication skills to convey technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
  • Exceptional organizational skills with a focus on quality, deadlines, and client satisfaction.

Responsibilities

  • Document business requirements by collaborating with HR stakeholders and translating these into technical specifications for IT developers.
  • Design, develop, and configure custom HR solutions, interfaces, and system modules to meet organizational needs.
  • Establish and maintain comprehensive system documentation, including user guides, procedures, and technical manuals.
  • Create detailed test plans and scripts to validate system functionality, including addressing future updates, tax changes, and new features.
  • Coordinate and lead unit testing and user acceptance testing (UAT) with various Centers of Expertise (COEs) and business units to ensure system readiness and functionality.
  • Provide technical problem resolution through analysis, resource estimation, workflow documentation, and collaboration with technical teams.
  • Stay informed about the latest developments in HR technology, security updates, and system enhancements to continually improve system performance and security.
  • Support ongoing system upgrades, maintenance, and troubleshooting to ensure optimal operation of HR systems.
  • Assist in integrating HR systems with other enterprise applications, ensuring data integrity and seamless workflows.
