- About the Role
- JCW is partnering with a leading global insurance group to hire a Senior Cat Risk & Analytics Specialist for its specialist Nat Cat analytics team. This is a high-impact role at the center of the group’s catastrophe risk strategy, supporting enterprise risk management and group companies worldwide.
The position offers strong visibility across the group’s risk, exposure management, and capital modeling teams. You’ll go beyond running vendor models to shape the group’s view of catastrophe risk through model evaluation, blending, and innovative analytical research.
The team is also exploring climate change impacts and emerging forecasting approaches, so it’s an excellent opportunity for a cat modeler who wants to combine technical depth with R&D.
- Key Responsibilities
- Act as a subject matter expert and super user of commercial catastrophe models (Verisk/AIR and Moody’s RMS), proposing and executing innovative solutions.
- Prepare, clean, and manipulate large property exposure datasets for cat model runs, including assessing exposure data quality.
- Perform enterprise accumulation analytics and support event response with exposure impact and loss estimation reporting.
- Support group capital modeling through cat model standardization, loss accumulation, and model blending.
- Provide analytical support for climate change impact assessment, internal model validation, and model enhancement.
- Analyze loss estimates and communicate results clearly through reports, exhibits, and formal presentations to senior stakeholders.
- Lead communication with risk analysts, exposure management, and capital modeling teams across the global group.
- Support group companies with Nat Cat questions, risk analytics, and training.
- Keep the group’s catalog of cat models, vendor tools, and data sources up to date.
- Research and develop practical tools and solutions to quantify catastrophe risk for stakeholders across the group.
- Mentor and train junior team members.
- Ideal Candidate Profile
- Bachelor’s degree in applied science, engineering, actuarial science, economics, math, or a related field. A master’s degree is preferred.
- 5+ years of professional experience in catastrophe modeling and analytics.
- Expert, hands-on experience with commercial cat models, ideally both Verisk/AIR and Moody’s RMS.
- Strong technical skills in SQL, Excel, and GIS, plus programming in Python and/or R.
- Solid grounding in statistics and financial modeling as applied to catastrophe risk.
- Experience supporting multiple areas of (re)insurance, such as underwriting, exposure management, risk management, or R&D, is highly desirable.
- Excellent analytical and diagnostic skills, with the ability to explain complex results to technical and non-technical audiences.
- Project management experience is a plus but not required.
If you’re a catastrophe modeler who wants to go beyond running models and help shape how a global insurer understands Nat Cat risk, we’d love to hear from you.
We aim to be an equal opportunity recruiter, and we are determined to ensure that no applicant receives less favorable treatment on the grounds of gender, age, disability, religion, belief, sexual orientation, marital status, or race, or is disadvantaged by conditions or requirements.
