Robotics Hardware Lead - Robotics Data / Physical AI

We are partnered with an innovative and fast-growing AI robotics and data generation start up looking to expand their founding team with a Robotics Hardware Lead to own the end-to-end sensing and capture stack for real-world robotics data collection, driving hardware readiness and field deployment reliability at scale.

This is a permanent, remote opportunity based in the United States, with travel as needed for partner deployments and onsite validation.

• Key responsibilities for this Robotics Hardware Lead position:
• Own end-to-end collection stack readiness — procurement, sensor integration, calibration, synchronisation, and deployment protocols.
• Define build-vs-buy decisions across rigs, sensors, compute, and capture infrastructure.
• Build repeatable deployment playbooks ensuring consistent, high-quality capture across sites, operators, and environments.
• Diagnose and prevent systemic failure modes — drift, timestamp misalignment, sensor dropout, and hardware instability.
• Define the technical roadmap for rig architecture, sensor modalities, and synchronisation strategy.
• Lead engineers, technicians, and partner teams, and align with Research and Platform Engineering on downstream data quality needs.

Key requirements:

• Hands-on experience owning robotics hardware integration or field-deployed technical systems end to end.
• Strong knowledge of sensing, calibration, synchronisation, logging, and capture reliability.
• Experience with ROS/ROS 2 capture, logging, and debugging workflows.
• Strong intuition for data-integrity failure modes with a prevention-first mindset.
• Familiarity with multimodal capture (video, depth, IMU, proprioception) and tooling such as MCAP, rosbag, or PTP/NTP a plus.
