Market Analyst – US Power Markets (ERCOT)

  • The Opportunity
  • GridBeyond is seeking an experienced Market Analyst – US Power Markets to support and expand our participation across North American wholesale electricity markets, with a primary focus on ERCOT (Electric Reliability Council of Texas).
  • This role is ideal for an analytical energy professional who possesses deep expertise within ERCOT markets and a minimum of 2 years' hands-on experience in ERCOT market operations, analysis, or trading support. The successful candidate will play a key role in monitoring market developments, evaluating regulatory and commercial opportunities, supporting battery energy storage strategies, and delivering critical market insights that influence both customer and business decisions.
  • Reporting into the US Market Strategy & Regulatory team, this position offers the opportunity to work at the forefront of the energy transition, supporting the integration of renewable energy, battery storage, and distributed energy resources across North America.

Key Responsibilities

  • Market Analysis & Intelligence
  • Monitor, analyze, and interpret developments across ERCOT wholesale electricity markets.
  • Track energy, capacity, ancillary service, and congestion market fundamentals.
  • Provide market commentary, forecasts, and recommendations to support commercial strategy and operational decision-making.
  • Assess the impact of market design changes, transmission developments, renewable integration, and emerging technologies.
  • Develop regular reports, dashboards, and presentations for internal stakeholders and clients.
  • ERCOT Market Expertise
  • Serve as a subject matter expert on ERCOT market operations and settlement structures.
  • Apply practical ERCOT market knowledge gained through a minimum of two years of direct market experience.
  • Deliver hands-on operational functions to include but not limited to market submissions, compliance filings, and QSE coordination.
  • Monitor and interpret ERCOT stakeholder processes, market notices, and rule changes.
  • Support strategic assessments of new market opportunities, ancillary services, and optimization strategies within the ISO.
  • Battery Storage & Distributed Energy Resources
  • Coordinate QSE responsibilities for battery commissioning, testing, and go-to-market operations.
  • Analyze battery energy storage system (BESS) market opportunities across ERCOT.
  • Evaluate price signals, ancillary service revenues, capacity market opportunities, and congestion impacts affecting storage assets.
  • Lead seasonal ERS registration and bidding.
  • Assess the role of distributed energy resources, demand response, and renewable generation in evolving market structures.
  • Support the successful integration of customer assets into GridBeyond's optimization platform including leading registration activity with ERCOT.
  • Regulatory & Market Development
  • Track FERC, ERCOT, and relevant state-level regulatory developments.
  • Assess policy changes and market reforms that may impact GridBeyond customers and business operations.
  • Produce impact assessments and recommendations for leadership teams.
  • Stakeholder Engagement
  • Collaborate with commercial, trading, market operations, and technology teams to identify and execute growth opportunities.
  • Represent GridBeyond in market forums, industry working groups, conferences, and stakeholder meetings.
  • Build relationships with ISO stakeholders, customers, industry associations, and market participants.
  • Research & Innovation
  • Support development of innovative market participation strategies for battery storage, demand response, and renewable assets.
  • Contribute to internal thought leadership on emerging market trends and energy transition opportunities.
  • Stay current on developments in AI-driven energy optimization, flexibility markets, and grid modernization.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Economics, Energy Management, Engineering, Finance, Mathematics, Environmental Science, or a related discipline.
  • Strong ERCOT market expertise with demonstrated experience analysing or operating within the market.
  • Minimum 2 years of direct ERCOT market experience.
  • 3+ years of experience in power markets, energy market analysis, energy trading support, market operations, or related energy sector roles.
  • Strong understanding of wholesale electricity markets, including energy, ancillary services, congestion, and capacity mechanisms.
  • Knowledge of battery energy storage systems (BESS), renewable energy markets, and distributed energy resources.
  • Advanced analytical and quantitative skills.
  • Proficiency with Excel and energy market data analysis tools.
  • Experience using Python, SQL, Power BI, Tableau, R, or similar analytical platforms is highly desirable.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to explain complex market concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Self-motivated with the ability to work independently in a remote environment.
  • Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience supporting battery storage, flexibility, demand response, or renewable energy optimization projects.
  • Familiarity with ERCOT, PJM, MISO, or SPP markets.
  • Understanding of FERC and ISO regulatory processes and US energy policy.
  • Master's degree in a relevant discipline.
