- Are you an experienced structured cabling and data center professional who enjoys leading crews, delivering high-quality infrastructure deployments, and working in mission-critical environments?
- We are seeking a Lead Technician โ Data Center to lead installation, decommissioning, testing, and troubleshooting of network and cabling infrastructure within large-scale data center environments. This role combines hands-on technical execution with crew leadership, customer interaction, quality oversight, and project coordination to ensure successful delivery of data center infrastructure projects.
- The ideal candidate combines expertise in fiber optics, structured cabling, data center deployments, crew leadership, testing and troubleshooting, customer engagement, and project execution.
- Key Responsibilities
- Data Center Infrastructure Installation
- Install and decommission network and structured cabling infrastructure within data centers.
- Support deployment of:
- Copper Cabling Systems
- Fiber Optic Infrastructure
- Network Hardware
- Patch Panels
- Telecommunications Equipment
- Execute projects according to customer requirements and industry standards.
- Ensure installations meet quality, performance, and operational expectations.
- Crew Leadership & Field Supervision
- Lead and supervise crews of 5+ technicians.
- Assign daily work activities and monitor progress.
- Provide direction and support to field personnel.
- Ensure work is completed safely, accurately, and on schedule.
- Accept responsibility for crew performance and project outcomes.
- Fiber Optic & Copper Infrastructure
- Perform and oversee:
- Fiber Terminations
- Copper Terminations
- Fusion Splicing
- Fiber Testing
- Copper Testing
- Troubleshooting Activities
- Support installation and maintenance of low-voltage cabling systems.
- Ensure cable labeling, routing, and management adhere to standards.
- Validate infrastructure readiness before turnover.
- Testing & Troubleshooting
- Perform testing and certification of:
- Fiber Networks
- Copper Networks
- Telecommunications Infrastructure
- Diagnose and resolve infrastructure issues.
- Troubleshoot connectivity and performance problems.
- Verify installation quality before project completion.
- Document testing and troubleshooting results.
- Customer Engagement
- Conduct customer walkthroughs and job site reviews.
- Communicate project status and installation updates.
- Address customer concerns professionally.
- Ensure customer expectations are understood and met.
- Build positive relationships with project stakeholders.
- Project Coordination
- Coordinate activities with:
- Foremen
- Project Managers
- QA/QC Teams
- Field Technicians
- Customer Representatives
- Assist in removing project obstacles and resolving field issues.
- Support timely project execution and completion.
- Monitor progress against project milestones.
- Quality Assurance & Compliance
- Maintain high-quality standards across all installations.
- Participate in quality walks and inspections with QA/QC teams.
- Ensure all work aligns with customer standards and project specifications.
- Support project closeout readiness.
- Promote continuous improvement of installation practices.
- Documentation & Reporting
- Maintain accurate project documentation including:
- Timesheets
- Installation Records
- Testing Results
- Quality Documentation
- Closeout Records
- Track crew productivity and labor reporting.
- Communicate project progress to leadership.
- Ensure paperwork is completed accurately and on time.
- Data Center Operations Knowledge
- Read and interpret:
- Blueprints
- Floor Plans
- Cable Layout Drawings
- Redline Documents
- Infrastructure Schematics
- Understand data center technologies and infrastructure environments.
- Support both deployment and operational activities within live facilities.
- Safety & Workplace Standards
- Follow and enforce established safety procedures.
- Promote safe work practices among crew members.
- Maintain a clean and organized data center environment.
- Ensure compliance with customer safety requirements.
- Support incident prevention and hazard awareness programs.
Qualifications
- Experience
- Required
- Experience installing and decommissioning data center infrastructure.
- Experience leading teams of 5 or more technicians.
- Strong background in structured cabling and low-voltage systems.
- Experience with medium-to-large-scale infrastructure projects.
- Customer-facing field experience.
