Overview
Insight Global is seeking a Data Center Lead Technician to support ongoing data center infrastructure projects in Ashburn, VA. This individual will provide day-to-day leadership of field technicians, coordinate manpower, manage daily work assignments, and ensure all project documentation is completed accurately and on time.
The ideal candidate comes from a telecommunications or structured cabling background and has hands-on experience across multiple disciplines, including fiber optics, cable tray installation, structured cabling, blueprint interpretation, and infrastructure deployments. This role is a working lead position, meaning the individual will be actively involved in field work while overseeing team execution.
Responsibilities
Lead and supervise a crew of approximately 5-6 technicians, with team size increasing as project demands require.
Coordinate daily manpower assignments and ensure technicians are working on the appropriate tasks.
Develop and manage weekly pre-task plans using internal project management systems.
Complete daily documentation, progress reports, and project updates detailing completed work and upcoming activities.
Read and interpret construction drawings, cable routing plans, rack elevations, and project prints.
Oversee installation of fiber optic and structured cabling infrastructure.
Support cable tray, ladder rack, and pathway installations.
Ensure quality standards are met for cable routing, dressing, labeling, and testing.
Assist with fiber splicing activities and understand fiber testing methodologies.
Track project progress and communicate updates to project management teams.
Maintain safety, quality, and production standards across the job site.
Identify and resolve field issues while keeping projects on schedule.
Required Qualifications
3+ years of experience in telecommunications, structured cabling, or data center infrastructure.
Previous experience leading crews or acting as a foreman, lead technician, or site lead.
Strong understanding of fiber optic infrastructure, including splicing concepts and fiber pathways.
Experience installing and managing cable tray systems and structured cabling projects.
Ability to read and interpret blueprints, prints, and construction drawings.
Experience creating daily reports, progress updates, and project documentation.
Comfortable utilizing internal systems for scheduling, pre-task planning, and reporting.
Strong communication and organizational skills.
Reliable transportation and ability to work in active construction/data center environments.
Pretask/ and workforce planning experience.
Preferred Qualifications
Prior hyperscale or colocation ("colo") data center experience.
Experience supporting large-scale fiber deployments.
Familiarity with quality control processes and project tracking documentation.
OSHA certification or other relevant safety training.
