  • Title: Lead Data Center Project Engineer
  • Location: Travel-Based (80–90% Nationwide Travel)
  • Pay Rate: $60–70/hour
  • Duration: 6 Month Contract to Hire
  • Working Hours: Up to 72 Hours per week (Any hours worked over 40 will be paid 1.5x)
  • Required Skills & Experience
  • 5+ years of hands-on experience in data center deployments with a strong emphasis on structured cabling and network infrastructure
  • Proven experience leading field engineering teams, including low voltage technicians, cabling installers, and subcontractors
  • Deep expertise in structured cabling systems (Cat6A, fiber – OM3/OM4/OS2) and fiber plant design/implementation
  • Experience supporting rack & stack of network, server, and storage hardware within data center environments
  • Strong working knowledge of data center networking architectures (core, aggregation, leaf/spine)
  • Hands-on experience with fiber/copper installation, termination, testing, and troubleshooting
  • Proficiency with testing equipment such as Fluke (DTX/Versiv), OTDR, and Exfo tools
  • Experience creating engineering documentation including rack elevations, cable routing diagrams, and patch schedules
  • Familiarity with BICSI and TIA/EIA standards and ability to ensure compliance in all deployments
  • Ability and willingness to travel 80–90%
  • Nice to Have Skills & Experience
  • Experience with Cisco (Nexus/Meraki), Arista, Juniper, or Palo Alto networking equipment
  • Background in OSP/ISP fiber installations and cross-connect environments
  • Previous experience working in colocation or enterprise-scale data centers
  • Exposure to project lifecycle ownership from design through closeout
  • Strong client-facing communication and stakeholder management experience
  • Job Description
  • The Data Center Project Engineer (Lead Level) is a senior-level, hands-on technical role responsible for leading the implementation and delivery of physical infrastructure and networking systems within enterprise and colocation data centers. This individual will serve as the on-site technical lead, driving execution across structured cabling, fiber infrastructure, and rack deployment while ensuring adherence to industry standards and client expectations.
  • This position plays a critical role in bridging engineering design and field execution. The engineer will collaborate closely with project managers, integration teams, and customer stakeholders to ensure successful, high-quality deployments from start to finish. Responsibilities include overseeing full project lifecycle delivery, mentoring field teams, ensuring quality standards, and maintaining accurate technical documentation.
  • D2D:
  • Lead structured cabling, fiber infrastructure, and rack deployment efforts across data center projects
  • Own end-to-end project delivery including site surveys, design planning (rack elevations, BOMs), implementation, testing, and closeout
  • Supervise and guide field technicians and subcontractors on installation best practices and execution standards
  • Perform hands-on oversight of cable pulling, dressing, termination, and patching activities
  • Coordinate and support installation of networking hardware including core, aggregation, and leaf infrastructure
  • Develop and maintain detailed engineering documentation including labeling schemes, cable routes, and test results
  • Participate in client meetings, site walks, project kickoffs, and final punch list reviews
  • Ensure all work complies with BICSI, TIA/EIA, and client-specific data center standards
