About the Role
Kanda is hiring a Lab Information Systems Analyst to join the Operations Lab Technology (OLT) team supporting a biotech process development organization in Cambridge, MA. You will be the hands-on technology partner for the scientists there, keeping the lab computers, instrument controllers, and data systems behind their work secure, current, and reliable.
This is a lab infrastructure and benchtop systems role. You will set up and support the computers that run lab instruments, keep them patched and compliant, run the backup and archive systems that protect scientific data, and help make sure instrument data flows cleanly into the lab’s digital execution environment. You will support dozens of scientists onsite in Cambridge, as part of a larger organization across multiple sites.
We are looking for someone early in their career who is curious about both technology and science. If you come from the science side, we will train you on the IT. If you come from the IT side, we will train you on the science.

Kanda is ISO 27001 certified and an AWS Advanced Tier Partner with Healthcare and Life Sciences competencies.
In this role you are a full-time Kanda employee, working onsite every day as part of our client’s lab technology team.
The Lab Digital Environment You Will Support
The labs run on an integrated lab execution environment (HLEE) that connects the electronic lab notebook (ELN), lab execution system (LES), LIMS, and automated instrument data capture into a single digital loop. Scientists execute protocols step by step in the system, instrument runs are triggered and logged from it, and results flow back into a central data layer without manual copy-paste.
- Your part is the foundation that makes this work: the instrument PCs, the data acquisition software, the network and security settings that let data move, and the backups that protect it. You do not need to know all of this on day one, but you should be excited to learn how:
- • ELNs work. Experiments, recipes, and test protocols become reusable digital templates, and how metadata such as operator, lot, batch, sample, and cell line keeps data searchable and traceable.
- • Instrument data is structured. Analytical instruments (HPLC, mass spectrometers, bioreactors, plate readers, flow cytometers) produce vendor-specific raw files, and how those runs, injections, peaks, and summary results are mapped into standard data models (e.g., Allotrope, AnIML, JSON/XML schemas) for ingestion into a data lake or back to the ELN.
- • Data integrity is protected. Audit trails, electronic signatures, version tracking, and ALCOA+ principles keep scientific data trustworthy and compliant with 21 CFR Part 11.
What You Will Do
- Lab systems and benchtop support
- • Set up, deploy, and administer benchtop computers and instrument controllers, including onboarding new lab equipment.
- • Resolve support requests from scientists: software and Windows OS upgrades, hardware, peripheral, and network issues, and general troubleshooting.
- • Support scientific data acquisition systems such as SDMS, Empower, Chromeleon, and Unicorn, and the connections that move their data into the lab execution environment.
- Data protection and security
- • Configure and run the existing backup and archive systems for lab data.
- • Roll out software patches, OS lifecycle upgrades, and endpoint security tools (e.g., CrowdStrike) to lab computers.
- • Work with infrastructure, network, security, and database teams to make sure lab systems and instrument data flows meet security, networking, and GxP requirements.
- Compliance and change management
- • Work within validated (GxP) systems and follow established procedures for every change.
- • Execute change-management and test protocols when systems are updated, and document results accurately.
- Projects, vendors, and assets
- • Coordinate instrument and software vendors on installs, fixes, and upgrades: track schedules, follow up on open issues, and see work through to completion.
- • Contribute to assigned hardware and software lifecycle projects.
- • Physically inventory benchtop computers and reconcile them with the asset inventory system.
- • Write and maintain simple scripts that automate routine team tasks.
What You Bring
- Required
- • Master’s degree (preferred) or Bachelor’s degree in Information Systems, Computer Science, Engineering, or a life science such as biology, chemistry, or bioengineering.
- • 1–4 years of experience, which can include internships, co-ops, research lab work, or IT support.
- • Working knowledge of Windows and PC hardware, networking basics, and peripherals, or a clear aptitude to learn them quickly.
- • Familiarity with scripting (e.g., PowerShell, Batch, or Python).
- • Strong customer focus and clear communication with both scientists and IT colleagues.
- • Attention to detail and accuracy, especially in documentation.
- • Ability to work onsite in Cambridge, MA, and to occasionally support off-hours GxP deployments.
- Nice to have
- • Hands-on experience with SDMS, Empower, Chromeleon, Unicorn, or other instrument software.
- • Experience using an ELN (e.g., Benchling, BIOVIA, IDBS) or LIMS, from either the user or the admin side.
- • Understanding of GxP, 21 CFR Part 11, GAMP, or data integrity (ALCOA+) principles.
- • Lab experience in life sciences, pharma, or biotech, or IT support in a regulated industry.
- • Active Directory, Group Policy, and Windows Server basics.
- • Linux exposure (RHEL, Ubuntu).
- • AWS (EC2, S3, IAM, snapshots and backups).
- • Databricks, Spark, SQL, or Python for working with instrument data.
- Work Environment
- • Fully onsite in Cambridge, MA, working directly with scientists and their instruments.
- • Standard lab setting with no special physical requirements.
- • Occasional off-hours work for GxP deployments and planned maintenance windows.
- • Cross-functional role working with scientists, instrument owners, vendors, IT teams, and lab leadership.
- What We Offer
- • $90,000 – $105,000 base salary, full-time W2 employment with Kanda
- • Medical, dental, and vision insurance
- • 401(k) with company match
- • Hands-on training in lab science or IT, whichever side is new to you
