- About the Role
- We are seeking a Geospatial Data Scientist to join our growing team and help transform complex geospatial data into meaningful business insights. In this role, you will work across the complete geospatial data lifecycle—from data ingestion and processing to spatial analysis, machine learning, and visualization. You will collaborate closely with engineering, product, and data teams to build scalable geospatial solutions that power our platform.

- Key Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and execute advanced geospatial analyses to support product development and business decisions.
- Build, optimize, and maintain scalable geospatial data pipelines and spatial data models.
- Query, manage, and optimize large geospatial datasets using PostgreSQL and PostGIS.
- Process and analyze geospatial data formats including GeoJSON, Shapefile, GeoTIFF, WKT, WKB, and WMS/WFS.
- Develop and implement machine learning models for spatial applications such as clustering, classification, interpolation, and predictive analytics.
- Create interactive maps, dashboards, and visualizations to communicate spatial insights to technical and business stakeholders.
- Collaborate with backend software engineers to integrate geospatial functionality into production systems and APIs.
- Perform data validation, quality assurance, and spatial accuracy assessments.
- Improve performance of spatial queries through indexing, optimization, and efficient data modeling.
- Document methodologies, workflows, and technical solutions following engineering best practices.
- Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Geography, GIS, Computer Science, Data Science, Environmental Science, or a related technical field.
- 3–6 years of professional experience in Geospatial Data Science, GIS, Spatial Analytics, or a related discipline.
- Strong programming skills in Python with experience using geospatial libraries such as:
- GeoPandas
- Shapely
- Fiona
- Rasterio
- GDAL (preferred)
- Hands-on experience with PostgreSQL and PostGIS for spatial database management and querying.
- Strong understanding of coordinate reference systems (CRS), map projections, spatial indexing, and spatial data modeling.
- Experience working with common geospatial data formats including GeoJSON, Shapefile, GeoTIFF, WKT, WKB, and WMS/WFS services.
- Experience using GIS platforms such as QGIS, ArcGIS, or similar tools.
- Practical experience applying machine learning techniques to spatial datasets.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
- Ability to work effectively in a fully remote, collaborative environment.
- Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working with remote sensing data or satellite imagery.
- Knowledge of cloud-based geospatial platforms such as:
- Google Earth Engine
- AWS RDS with PostGIS
- AWS Geospatial Services
- Experience with geospatial visualization tools such as:
- Mapbox
- Deck.gl
- GeoServer
- MapServer
- Familiarity with large-scale geospatial processing frameworks such as Apache Sedona, H3, or S2 Geometry.
- Experience with Docker, containerized applications, and cloud-native workflows.
- Knowledge of Git, CI/CD pipelines, and modern software development practices.
- Experience working in Agile/Scrum development environments.
