Financial Analyst

Purpose of Job:

The Financial Analyst enhances customer and co-worker experiences by analyzing financial and operational results and developing reporting that provides management with greater visibility into business performance. The role supports financial reporting, budgeting, forecasting, performance measurement, and management decision-making.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

• Ensure all duties and responsibilities are completed as per NEXT’s Standard Operating Procedures:
• Analyze monthly financial results against budget, prior year, forecast, and historical trends; investigate unusual results, identify errors and performance drivers, and explain significant variances.
• Prepare management reporting packages, financial and operational metrics, and performance dashboards.
• Develop and maintain financial models, Power BI dashboards, and other reporting tools that improve visibility into business performance.
• Assist with annual budgets, forecasts, scenario analysis, and long-term financial planning.
• Prepare ad hoc financial and operational analysis to support management decision-making.
• Participate in the month-end close and financial reporting process, including financial statement preparation, selected journal entries, account reconciliations, and supporting schedules, as required.
• Assist with year-end audit preparation and auditor requests.
• Perform other related responsibilities and projects as assigned.

Recommended Qualifications:

• Knowledge/Skill/Ability Requirements:
• Ability to consistently model NEXT’s core values and character expectations listed above
• Strong understanding of financial accounting and ASPE.
• Demonstrated ability to analyze financial results, investigate variances, identify issues, and translate detailed financial data into clear, decision-ready information.
• Advanced Microsoft Excel skills, including financial modelling and the development of repeatable reporting tools.
• Experience developing reports and dashboards in Power BI.
• Strong initiative and the ability to independently identify problems, investigate underlying causes, and recommend solutions.
• Strong organizational and time-management skills, with the ability to prioritize competing responsibilities and meet strict deadlines.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Strong attention to detail, accuracy, and confidentiality.
• Experience & Education:
• Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) is required or near completion
• Minimum of five (5) years of relevant working experience in financial accounting or financial analysis; experience in the distribution industry is considered an asset.
• Physical Demands/ Working Conditions:
• This position requires prolonged periods of working at a computer and using a keyboard and mouse.
