About The Role

This position is a Career Level 30P, designed to be fully remote and home-based. It offers a competitive salary range, dependent on factors such as geographical location, industry experience, skills, and credentials. For instance, in California, the salary range is between $131,600 and $224,100, while in New York City, it ranges from $143,500 to $244,400. The role involves leading high-impact data science initiatives within VWFS’s Data Science & AI Center of Excellence (CoE), focusing on end-to-end model development that drives business value. The successful candidate will be instrumental in transforming data-driven insights into strategic decisions, supporting VWFS’s goal to become a fully data and AI-driven organization. This role is not primarily focused on data analytics or ML engineering but emphasizes leadership in model development, innovation, and strategic implementation across various automotive finance applications.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Statistics, Economics, Engineering, Operations Research, or a related quantitative field
  • Master’s degree in Computer Science, Statistics, Economics, Engineering, Operations Research, or a similar field
  • 12+ years of experience in data and analytics, with at least 8 years in data science
  • 7+ years of experience in extracting, curating, exploring, and analyzing large datasets
  • 7+ years of experience in developing, integrating, and deploying machine learning solutions into business processes
  • 7+ years of expertise in algorithm development, parameter tuning, and validation
  • 5+ years leading machine learning project development
  • Strong knowledge of machine learning models, including traditional ML and Generative AI (GenAI)
  • Excellent communication skills to convey technical ideas to non-technical stakeholders
  • Proven leadership and mentorship capabilities
  • Ability to research and implement new data sources and analytical tools

Responsibilities

  • Lead the development of data science products, establishing standards, best practices, and fostering innovation within the Data Science CoE (25%)
  • Experiment, build, and integrate data science solutions into core business processes and explore new opportunities (75%)
  • Define and continuously improve the machine learning environment to ensure efficiency and scalability
  • Develop and deploy AI models that influence critical business decisions
  • Establish governance routines, peer reviews, and compliance protocols to adhere to privacy, ethics, and bias standards
  • Bring advanced data science techniques, algorithms, and tools to the team, promoting innovation
  • Provide technical oversight, mentorship, and guidance to junior data scientists
  • Apply appropriate techniques for model testing, tuning, and validation to ensure accuracy and robustness
  • Innovate and implement new machine learning methods to maintain VWFS’s industry leadership
  • Maintain comprehensive documentation, develop playbooks, and communicate progress effectively
  • Generate hypotheses and insights to drive new business opportunities and strategic initiatives
