About The Role
The Strategic Data Scientist at McKesson plays a pivotal role in driving analytical excellence and delivering actionable insights that support our business objectives. This position is integral to refining our value propositions and empowering customer teams through world-class analytics derived from our extensive and dynamic data repositories. The role emphasizes maximizing the time spent on high-impact, client-focused insights that directly influence commercial outcomes and strategic decision-making.
Collaborating extensively with various business units and external clients, the Strategic Data Scientist supports the achievement of organizational goals by translating complex data into clear, compelling narratives and recommendations. The ideal candidate is curious, adaptable to change, and excels at transforming data into meaningful insights that benefit both internal teams and external stakeholders.
This role requires building trusted relationships with client success teams and external partners by demonstrating the value of McKesson’s products through data storytelling. It involves proactive analysis of portfolio performance, customer needs, market trends, and industry events to identify opportunities and risks. The candidate will apply advanced statistical and predictive modeling techniques to analyze product data, forecast outcomes, and identify key drivers that influence business performance.
Additionally, the Strategic Data Scientist monitors portfolio health, provides regular updates to stakeholders, and escalates issues as necessary. Presenting insights through concise visuals and reports, supporting complex client requests, and contributing strategic insights to inform product development and operational decisions are essential components of this role. Developing expertise in the pharmaceutical industry and understanding the broader healthcare landscape are also critical to success in this position.
Qualifications
- BA/BS degree or equivalent experience in data analytics, business, public health, or a related field; healthcare experience is strongly preferred.
- 5-7 years of experience in an analytics role within the healthcare or pharmaceutical industry.
- Strong understanding of data science methodologies including decision trees, multivariate analysis, segmentation modeling, factor analysis, regression analysis, forecasting, and machine learning.
- Experience or familiarity with statistical software such as Python, R, MATLAB, SAS, etc.
- Curious problem solver with the ability to quickly interpret complex data issues.
- Self-motivated team player capable of managing competing priorities effectively.
- Proficient in data mining, analysis, and deriving insights from large datasets.
- Skilled in creating queries, writing reports, and presenting findings clearly and effectively.
- Intermediate to advanced proficiency in SQL and data visualization tools like Excel, Tableau, or similar platforms.
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to manage expectations and convey complex concepts simply.
Responsibilities
- Build and maintain trusted relationships with client success teams and external clients by demonstrating the value of McKesson’s products through compelling data stories.
- Conduct proactive analyses of portfolio performance, customer needs, and market dynamics to identify opportunities and mitigate risks.
- Apply advanced statistical and machine learning techniques to analyze product data, forecast trends, and determine key performance drivers.
- Monitor the health of client portfolios, provide regular updates, and escalate issues to appropriate stakeholders.
- Create and deliver clear, concise visualizations and reports that translate complex data into actionable insights for clients and internal teams.
- Identify opportunities to enhance product value and analytical efficiency, supporting continuous improvement initiatives.
- Support complex client requests and issue escalations by collaborating with account teams and technical experts.
- Contribute insights that influence strategic and tactical decisions related to product development, market positioning, and operational efficiency.
- Develop and deepen expertise in the pharmaceutical industry, healthcare trends, and the specific needs of supported accounts.
- Stay updated on industry best practices, emerging analytics techniques, and regulatory considerations impacting healthcare data analysis.
