Position:
Data Migration Engineer for the world’s greatest veterinary Practice Management Solution (Shepherd).
Your Mission:
Leverage diverse technologies to design, build, maintain, and continuously improve a best-in-class end-to-end data migration pipeline for veterinary Practice Management Information Systems. This role will support the extraction, transformation, validation, and import of complex customer data from a variety of legacy and modern systems into Shepherd’s platform.
What you will do:
- Strong experience with SQL, relational data analysis, and common database systems
- Experience with Java and/or Python, plus familiarity with Git, testing practices, and deployment workflows
- Familiarity with ETL processes, best practices, and data integration platforms (ex. CloverDX, Flatfile) or similar tools
- Experience working with REST APIs, OAuth2/token-based authentication, flat files, database exports, backups, and on-premises data sources
- Advanced understanding of data transformation, normalization, schema mapping, validation, secure data handling, and technical troubleshooting
What we are looking for:
- Design, build, and maintain scalable ETL workflows for migrating veterinary practice data into Shepherd’s platform
- Extract, transform, normalize, and map data from diverse source systems into standardized target data models
- Build validation, reconciliation, error-handling, retry, and QA processes to ensure migration accuracy and reliability
- Troubleshoot pipeline failures, source-specific issues, and project-level blockers while supporting internal end-users
- Create and maintain documentation covering tool usage, source-system scope and limitations, known omissions, process changes, and evolving best practices
