What You’ll Do
The Data Architect / Data Engineer is responsible for designing, developing, and managing Northland Power’s enterprise data platform. This role will own the organization’s Azure-based data warehouse environment, ensuring data from enterprise systems is integrated, standardized, secure, and accessible for analytics, reporting, AI, and business intelligence.
The successful candidate will lead the design of scalable data architectures, build and maintain data pipelines, normalize and model enterprise data, and deliver self-service data marts that empower business users with trusted, high-quality information. This role works closely with IT, business stakeholders, analytics teams, and AI developers to establish a modern enterprise data foundation.
Key Responsibilities
- Own and evolve the enterprise data architecture strategy, roadmap, and standards aligned with business objectives.
- Design, build, and maintain scalable Azure-based data warehouse, lakehouse, and data platform solutions.
- Develop enterprise data models and semantic layers that support reporting, analytics, and AI initiatives.
- Design, build, and optimize ETL/ELT pipelines integrating data from ERP, HRIS, Finance, SCADA, CRM, GIS, and other enterprise systems.
- Ensure data quality through validation, cleansing, enrichment, monitoring, and master data management practices.
- Deliver trusted, business-ready data marts and datasets that enable self-service analytics and Power BI reporting.
- Establish and maintain data governance capabilities, including metadata management, lineage, cataloging, security, and compliance.
- Administer and optimize Azure data services, ensuring platform performance, scalability, reliability, disaster recovery, and cost efficiency.
- Partner with business and technology teams to translate requirements into scalable, secure, and governed data solutions.
- Provide technical leadership and mentorship, promoting data engineering best practices across the organization.

Qualifications And Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Data Engineering, Software Engineering, or a related field; Azure certifications are an asset.
- 7+ years of experience designing and delivering enterprise data platforms, with 5+ years working with Azure data technologies.
- Proven experience building and supporting enterprise data warehouses, lakehouses, data marts, and BI/analytics environments.
- Strong expertise with Azure Data Factory, Azure Synapse Analytics, Azure SQL, Azure Data Lake Storage, Azure DevOps, Power BI, and Microsoft Fabric.
- Advanced SQL and Python skills for data engineering, automation, and performance optimization.
- Deep knowledge of ETL/ELT development, data modeling, orchestration, transformation, and enterprise system integrations.
- Experience with data governance, data quality, master data management, metadata, lineage, and regulatory compliance.
- Knowledge of Azure security, RBAC, backup, disaster recovery, and enterprise data platform administration.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, communication, and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to translate technical concepts for business audiences.
- Demonstrated ability to influence data strategy, drive enterprise standards, and support adoption of modern data, analytics, and AI capabilities.

Pay Range
$100,000.00 - $125,000.00
