About The Role
The HII Mission Technologies Division is seeking a highly skilled Senior Data Engineer to join its team near Fort Gordon, Georgia. This pivotal role involves designing and maintaining secure, scalable data pipelines that facilitate the timely delivery of mission-relevant data to intelligence analysts. The successful candidate will play a critical role in supporting high-impact GEOINT exploitation, analysis, and reporting for the Army GEOINT Enterprise, including Special Access Programs (SAP) and advanced GEOINT disciplines. This position offers an exciting opportunity to contribute to national security by enabling advanced data integration, transformation, and analysis capabilities that support operational and strategic decision-making. The Senior Data Engineer will collaborate closely with intelligence analysts, data scientists, and mission partners to understand data requirements, optimize workflows, and ensure the integrity and security of all data systems in accordance with government standards. This role requires a combination of technical expertise, operational understanding, and a commitment to excellence in supporting national defense objectives.
Qualifications
The ideal candidate will possess a minimum of 9 years of relevant experience with a Bachelor's degree in a related field, 7 years with a Master's degree, or 4 years with a PhD or Juris Doctorate. Candidates with a High School Diploma or equivalent must demonstrate at least 13 years of relevant experience. Strong communication skills, both written and oral, are essential, along with proven ability to manage personnel, requirements, and project coordination. Expertise in research, creating professional briefings, multimedia presentations, and comprehensive reports is required. Knowledge of Army structure, defense-level intelligence operations—including collection, fusion, analysis, production, and dissemination—is essential. Proficiency in programming languages such as Python, Scala, Java, R, SAS, C, or MATLAB, and experience with big data tools like Spark and Hadoop are highly desirable. Candidates must also have experience with data governance, metadata management, and querying databases efficiently using SQL. A current TS/SCI security clearance is mandatory, with bonus points awarded for advanced degrees in Data Science, Analytics, or related fields, along with current intelligence analysis experience, especially in GEOINT.
Responsibilities
The Senior Data Engineer will be responsible for designing, developing, and maintaining secure, high-performance data pipelines that deliver mission-critical data to analysts and decision-makers. Responsibilities include integrating, cleansing, and transforming diverse Multi-INT and GEOINT datasets from classified and unclassified sources, ensuring data quality through validation and auditing processes. The role involves building and optimizing ETL/ELT workflows to support analytic tradecraft, targeting, and operational planning, while automating data ingestion and transformation to enhance efficiency and analytic readiness. The engineer will develop data models, schemas, and storage solutions optimized for high-volume and high-velocity data, ensuring scalability and resilience. Collaborating with intelligence analysts and data scientists, the candidate will understand data requirements and deliver production-ready datasets aligned with operational needs. Ensuring compliance with IC data governance, security, and metadata standards is critical. The role also includes troubleshooting complex data flow issues, improving system resilience and performance, and supporting advanced analytics, AI/ML initiatives using cloud services and big data tools. Additional duties may include supporting cross-community meetings, assisting in drafting assessments, and contributing to continuous improvement initiatives within the data infrastructure.
