Position Summary:

The Chief Data Officer will define and execute the firm’s enterprise data strategy, affirming data as a practical actionable asset to drive advisor productivity, client outcomes, and business growth. Reporting to the Chief Operating Officer, this leader partners closely across business and support areas and owns the firm’s data agenda, including priority use cases, data platforms, and governance. This person ensures data capabilities translate into measurable business impact and treats data as a business asset with clear ownership, accountability, and value to the firm. The CDO oversees data governance, engineering, and analytics to deliver a unified view of client and business data.

Responsibilities:

  • Enterprise data strategy
  • Defines and owns the firm’s data agenda, including priority data initiatives and use cases
  • Aligns data strategy and investments to business priorities, including recruiting, organic growth, and scalability
  • Ensures data investments have measurable outcomes and clear returns on investment
  • Establishes a unified view of core data domains (e.g., clients, households, accounts, positions) across platforms
  • Prioritizes high-impact use cases that drive adoption and business value
  • Data governance and quality
  • Establishes ownership, standards, and definitions for core data domains
  • Defines data ownership across business and technology teams, ensuring accountability for definitions, quality and usage
  • Implements a clear data operating model, outlining how and when teams engage the data organization
  • Serves as central coordination point for enterprise data efforts, including vendor platform implementations, software development projects, analytics initiatives, and data requests
  • Ensures data quality, integrity, and accessibility across key systems
  • Implements governance that improves consistency while enabling speed of delivery
  • Drives adoption of governance tools and processes (e.g., catalog, lineage, stewardship)
  • Ensures compliance with regulatory requirements and manages data-related risks
  • Data architecture and platform
  • Oversees and enhances the firm’s data stores (e.g., warehouse) as core repositories for enterprise data
  • Ensures integration across systems such as CRM, custody, planning, and operational data stores
  • Drives modular API-first strategy that reduces data sprawl across systems
  • Partners with technology teams to embed data in applications and workflows
  • Improves data flows to reduce fragmentation and manual processes
  • Data standards and tooling
  • Establishes front-to-back standards for industry-leading data, reporting, and analytics tools
  • Rationalizes and streamlines business intelligence and analytics platforms to reduce fragmentation
  • Drives convergence toward a focused set of tools with clear use cases and minimal overlap
  • Ensures consistent definitions and reporting logic across the organization
  • Analytics and insights
  • Partners with FP&A to deliver dashboards supporting financial and business decision-making
  • Delivers actionable insights to improve advisor productivity and client engagement
  • Develops reporting that is trusted, usable, and aligned with business needs
  • Client and advisor enablement
  • Embeds data and insights into advisor and business workflows
  • Supports client segmentation, personalization, and book analytics
  • Drives adoption and holds business partners accountable for usage
  • Execution and performance management
  • Owns business outcomes and value realization for data initiatives
  • Defines success metrics and tracks impact on business performance
  • Allocates resources to highest-priority initiatives
  • Leadership and capability building
  • Builds and develops high-performing data and analytics teams with deep business expertise
  • Increases data literacy across organization through practical enablement
  • Oversees sourcing, integration, and effective management of external data
  • Manages relationships with external vendors and data providers

Qualifications and experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in technology, data, or business; advanced degree preferred
  • 15+ years of experience in data, analytics, or technology within financial services
  • Wealth management experience preferred, other financial services experience will be considered
  • Proven ability to build and scale business-focused data capabilities
  • Experience with enterprise data warehouses and modern data tools and platforms (e.g., Power BI, Tableau, Snowflake, etc.)
  • Strong understanding of governance, architecture, and analytics ecosystems
  • Experience rationalizing tools and establishing standards
  • Experience driving adoption in a decentralized or advisor-led environment
  • Familiarity with regulatory and compliance considerations
  • Experience partnering with FP&A and technology teams on report and system implementation
  • Demonstrated ability to deliver measurable outcomes
  • Prior people management experience, including recruitment and retention of top data talent
  • Ability to work 3 days a week in Philadelphia office
