  • Job Title: Verisk Rulebook Configuration Specialist – Specialty Insurance
  • Location: Remote
  • Role Overview
  • We are seeking a skilled professional to configure and support pricing, underwriting, and product rules within the Verisk platform using Rulebook. The role focuses on translating complex specialty insurance products into structured, automated rule configurations that enable accurate, compliant, and scalable insurance pricing and underwriting decisions.
  • This role sits at the intersection of insurance domain knowledge, rules configuration, and technology implementation, supporting specialty insurance lines such as E&S (Excess & Surplus), marine, energy, aviation, cyber, and other complex commercial products.
  • Key Responsibilities
  • 1. Rulebook Configuration & Product Setup
  • Configure insurance products in Verisk Rulebook, including:
  • Rating algorithms
  • Pricing models
  • Underwriting rules
  • Eligibility criteria
  • Referral rules and exception handling
  • Translate business underwriting guidelines into structured rule logic within the Rulebook engine.
  • Build and maintain rule hierarchies for specialty insurance products with multiple layers of complexity.
  • Configure rating tables, factors, modifiers, and risk-based pricing components.
  • 2. Specialty Insurance Product Support
  • Support development and configuration of specialty insurance products, including:
  • Excess & Surplus lines
  • Professional liability
  • Cyber insurance
  • Marine / cargo insurance
  • Energy / construction risks
  • Work closely with underwriting teams to define rating logic for non-standard risks.
  • Ensure Rulebook configurations align with evolving market appetite and underwriting strategy.
  • 3. End-to-End Insurance Workflow Enablement
  • Configure workflows for:
  • Submission intake
  • Risk assessment
  • Quote generation
  • Pricing calculation
  • Binding and issuance
  • Ensure seamless integration of Rulebook outputs into downstream systems such as policy admin and distribution platforms.
  • Support configuration of decision trees for underwriting approvals and referrals.
  • 4. Business Analysis & Requirements Gathering
  • Collaborate with:
  • Underwriters
  • Actuaries
  • Product managers
  • Business analysts
  • Gather and document functional and technical requirements for rating and pricing logic.
  • Convert business rules into clear configuration specifications.
  • 5. Testing & Validation
  • Perform unit, system, and regression testing of rule configurations.
  • Validate rating outputs against expected underwriting outcomes.
  • Execute scenario-based testing for complex specialty insurance cases.
  • Support User Acceptance Testing (UAT) with business stakeholders.
  • 6. Integration & Data Management
  • Work with API-based integrations to connect Rulebook with:
  • Policy administration systems
  • Data enrichment services
  • Rating engines and third-party data providers
  • Ensure accurate data mapping between Rulebook and external systems.
  • Support debugging of integration issues and data mismatches.
  • 7. Change Management & Governance
  • Maintain version control of rule configurations.
  • Ensure auditability of pricing and underwriting logic changes.
  • Follow governance frameworks for controlled deployment of rule updates.
  • Document all configuration changes and business justifications.
  • 8. Production Support & Maintenance
  • Provide L2/L3 support for Rulebook-related production issues.
  • Troubleshoot rating discrepancies and configuration errors.
  • Monitor system performance and rule execution behavior.
  • Implement fixes and enhancements as required.
  • 9. Reporting & Analytics Support
  • Enable structured data capture for analytics and reporting.
  • Support actuarial and business teams in extracting pricing insights.
  • Assist in building dashboards for portfolio performance tracking.
  • Required Skills & Experience
  • Technical Skills
  • Strong experience in insurance rules/configuration platforms (Rulebook or similar)
  • Knowledge of rules engines, decision tables, and rating logic
  • Experience with API integrations (REST/SOAP)
  • SQL knowledge for data validation and analysis
  • Understanding of data mapping and transformation
  • Insurance Domain Knowledge
  • Strong understanding of specialty insurance products
  • Knowledge of underwriting principles and risk classification
  • Familiarity with pricing models (base rates, modifiers, tiers, credits/debits)
  • Exposure to commercial insurance or E&S market preferred
  • Analytical Skills
  • Ability to translate complex underwriting guidelines into structured logic
  • Strong problem-solving and root cause analysis skills
  • Attention to detail for high-impact pricing configurations

  • Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with insurance product configuration platforms
  • Exposure to SaaS-based insurance ecosystems
  • Familiarity with Guidewire, Duck Creek, or similar platforms (plus)
  • Experience in agile delivery environments
