The team: The analyst will join a small but nimble competition team. The team assesses the U.S. and global airline industry's operating and competitive structures, identifying trends through active dialogue with the aviation industry and original analytical work. With detailed insights into the commercial issues facing the industry, and a thoughtful analytical approach, the team makes recommendations on significant policy and regulatory matters affecting the traveling and shipping public. We focus on airlines, but also work directly on issues related to airports, advanced air mobility, and drones.
The skills: We seek candidates with strong backgrounds in logical thinking, statistics, data analysis, airline industry analysis, economics, or mathematics, as well as a passion for analyzing and presenting data objectively to shape policy. Excellent candidates will understand the pillars of aviation economic data: schedules, traffic, financial, and fare/revenues - with an ability to incorporate additional sources such as operational or general economic data to present a holistic view.
The next frontier: In addition to navigating a dynamically changing U.S. airline industry, a new analyst could help pioneer new capabilities for DOT in the modern data ecosystem. We already use a variety of tools across the team - including SQL, Tableau, Python, MS Access, Excel, and third-party applications - and we build some custom tools with direct access to DOT’s large aviation database. We seek to develop business intelligence, AI-supported statistical methods, automated workflows, and visualizations.
Likely candidates: Data analysts, business intelligence analysts, airline industry analysts, economists.
Please contact Becki Hutchison at [email protected] with questions. Candidates must apply on a timely basis on USA Jobs. Open to U.S. citizens and nationals. Email applications cannot be accepted.
