- Job Title: Agronomy Analytics Specialist (Geospatial Data & Precision)
- Location: Johnston, IA / Cary, NC (Open to 100% Remote | Must align with Central Time: ~8:00 AM – 5:00 PM CT)
- Contract Duration: 12 Months Contract with possibility of Extension
- Shift Structure: First Shift | ~8:00 AM – 5:00 PM CT, Monday through Friday
- Pay Rate: $40.00 - $44.00/hr on W2
- Travel Requirement: 1 to 2 trips per year to Des Moines / Johnston, IA for team alignment.
- Portfolio Requirement: Be prepared to walk through sample analytical reports, slide summaries, or code workflows during interviews.
- Work Authorization: US Citizens & Green Card Holders only (Strictly no visa sponsorship available now or in the future).
- Interview Process: 1 to 2 rounds via Microsoft Teams (Technical/Agronomic deep dive + Data presentation review).
- Job Description: Our client, is a pioneer in precision agriculture and smart farming technologies, is seeking an applied Agronomy Analytics Specialist. In this hybrid/remote role, you will bridge real-world production agriculture with advanced geospatial data analytics. You will analyze large, complex datasets generated from connected machinery (planters, sprayers, combines), university trials, soil maps, and satellite imagery to quantify and demonstrate the agronomic and financial value of John Deere technologies. From writing scripts in R/Databricks from scratch to assembling polished executive one-pagers and PowerPoint decks, you will translate complex field data into actionable insights for growers, dealers, and business leaders.
- Key Responsibilities:
- End-to-End Ag Data Analytics: Extract, clean, and process raw operational machinery data (planter downforce/singulation, sprayer application files, yield maps) and agronomic datasets (soil grids, weather, trial plots).
- Scripting & Modeling from Scratch: Write autonomous data processing, statistical analysis, and spatial modeling scripts in R and Databricks.
- Geospatial Mapping & Analysis: Perform spatial layer integration and raster/vector analysis using ArcGIS Pro and QGIS, integrating baseline remote sensing/satellite imagery.
- Executive Deliverables & Storytelling: Synthesize analytical findings into professional, executive-ready 1-page PDF summaries and PowerPoint decks tailored for leadership, ag retailers, dealers, and farmers.
- Agronomic Value Quantification: Translate field trial data into clear metrics demonstrating machinery performance, return on investment (ROI), and agronomic efficacy.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner with field trial specialists, marketing teams, agronomists, and product engineers across Global Agronomy and AV&V teams.
- Required Qualifications & Skills:
- Agronomic & Machinery Domain Acumen: Practical understanding of production agriculture, crop cycles (corn/soy), and field machinery datasets (knowing how planter seeding rates, spray maps, and combine yield monitor data relate to one another).
- Autonomous Scripting & Big Data: Proven ability to query databases and write analytical code independently in R and/or Databricks.
- GIS & Spatial Analysis: Hands-on experience executing spatial analytics and map generation using ArcGIS Pro or QGIS.
- Reporting & Communication: Outstanding written communication skills with proven ability to assemble polished executive summaries and slide decks.
- Education: Master’s Degree strongly preferred (in Agronomy, Precision Ag, Agricultural Engineering, Geospatial Science, or related Ag-Data discipline); Bachelor’s degree accepted with strong practical industry experience.
- Experience: 2 to 5+ years of applied agricultural data analytics experience across industry, precision ag groups, crop input/seed companies (e.g., Corteva, Bayer/Climate, Syngenta), ag dealerships, or university ag research extensions.
- Stand-Out Skills (Preferred):
- Hands-on experience with Operations Center.
- Proficiency in Python, Tableau, or Power BI.
- Prior internship, co-op, or industry experience with commercial seed, crop chemical, or precision ag tech companies.
- Actual Skills Required:
- Applied Production Ag & Machinery Dataset Interpretation (Yield, Planter, Sprayer)
- Statistical & Data Scripting in R and Databricks from Scratch
- Geospatial Analysis & Layer Mapping in ArcGIS Pro / QGIS
- Executive Slide Deck & One-Page Data Summary Creation (PowerPoint)
