- Role Summary (Basic Purpose)
- The Technical Scrum Master is a hybrid role responsible for driving Agile delivery execution while performing deep technical and process analysis for enterprise initiatives. This role partners closely with Product Owners, Architects, Developers, and the Release Train Engineer (RTE) to ensure predictable delivery, high-quality outcomes, and alignment to Program Increment (PI) objectives.
- The role blends Scrum Master servant leadership with hands-on technical and project analysis, enabling teams to translate business and architectural needs into well-defined, prioritized, and executable backlog items while continuously improving delivery flow.
- Key ResponsibilitiesScrum Master & Agile Delivery Leadership
- Serve as Scrum Master for an Agile team.
- Facilitate all Agile ceremonies, including Daily Stand-ups, Sprint Planning, Backlog Refinement, Sprint Reviews, Retrospectives, and System Demos.
- Coach teams on Scrum and SAFe practices, fostering self-organization and continuous improvement.
- Identify, track, and remove or escalate impediments and risks impacting delivery.
- Support PI Planning, ART Syncs, and coordination with other teams and shared services.
- Partner with the Release Train Engineer (RTE) to help teams meet PI objectives and commitments.
- Apply Agile project management practices to support:
- Scope, schedule, and dependency management
- Risk and issue tracking
- Delivery metrics and forecasting
- Track and report team performance, velocity, and overall delivery health.
- Ensure alignment between sprint execution and broader program milestones.
- Represent the team in cross-team delivery forums (e.g., Scrum of Scrums, ART Syncs) to improve collaboration, reduce dependencies, and enhance delivery flow.
- Partner with architecture and platform stakeholders to ensure work aligns with enterprise architecture and operating model decisions.
- Technical Project & Product Analysis
- Perform technical and functional analysis of business requirements, system workflows, APIs, data integrations, and microservices-based applications.
- Partner with Product Owners and Business Systems Analysts (BSAs) to create, refine, and prioritize product backlogs, ensuring user stories are clear, testable, and ready for development.
- Analyze dependencies, scope, risks, and impacts across teams and systems.
- Review epics, features, user stories, and acceptance criteria, providing feedback to ensure quality and readiness.
- Serve as a liaison between business stakeholders, architecture, and delivery teams, translating business needs into technical solutions.
- Drive initiatives that improve delivery flow, quality, and predictability.
- Mentor team members on Agile principles, Scrum practices, and execution excellence.
- Contribute to Agile Release Train (ART)-level improvements and cross-team alignment.
- Promote transparency, accountability, and a culture of continuous learning.
- Required Qualifications
- Demonstrated experience serving as a Scrum Master for technology delivery teams and enabling reliable Agile execution.
- Strong capability in technical and process analysis, translating ambiguous business needs into clear, actionable backlog items.
- Bachelor's degree in Information Systems, Computer Science, Business, or equivalent experience.
- 5+ years of experience in Agile delivery roles, including Scrum Master and/or Technical Analyst responsibilities.
- Strong understanding of SAFe, Scrum, and Lean Agile principles.
- Experience working with technical teams supporting APIs, integrations, data flows, cloud technologies, or service-oriented architectures.
- Proven ability to analyze complex systems and translate requirements into executable backlog items.
- Excellent facilitation, communication, collaboration, and stakeholder management skills.
- Preferred Qualifications
- SAFe Scrum Master (SSM), Certified ScrumMaster (CSM), or equivalent Agile certification.
- Prior experience supporting enterprise-scale transformation initiatives.
- Familiarity with Azure DevOps or similar Agile lifecycle management tools.
- Experience working in matrixed and geographically distributed teams.
