About The Role
Under the guidance of the Manager of Life Safety Technology Service, the Systems Analyst plays a critical role in managing and supporting the Facilities Technology portfolio. This position involves overseeing the administration, deployment, and ongoing support of a variety of applications and systems integral to campus safety and operational efficiency. The analyst collaborates extensively with internal departments, external vendors, and university stakeholders to develop and implement innovative technical solutions that enhance safety protocols, streamline processes, and ensure system reliability. The role requires a blend of technical expertise, project management skills, and strategic communication to effectively translate business needs into scalable, secure, and user-friendly systems.
Qualifications
The ideal candidate will possess over five years of relevant experience, including at least three years of leading technical oversight of third-party applications. Proficiency in server administration, including operating systems such as Windows (from R2022 onward) and Linux (OpenSUSE, Red Hat), along with database management skills (SQL Server 2019 and above, Oracle 19c), is essential. Candidates should demonstrate hands-on experience troubleshooting and remediating vulnerabilities, managing application integrations via ODBC, SDK, and APIs, and supporting third-party systems such as video surveillance, electronic access, and fire alarm monitoring platforms. Strong scripting skills in SQL and PowerShell, along with knowledge of IT service management frameworks like ITIL, are highly desirable. Excellent communication skills, project management capabilities, and the ability to work independently are critical for success. A bachelor’s degree in information technology, computer science, or a related field is required, with certifications such as ITIL, PMP, or industry-specific credentials considered a plus.
Responsibilities
Technical & System Administration & Support (35%)
- Provide server-level administration for applications in both production and testing environments, including performance monitoring, configuration management, and security controls such as firewall rules.
- Coordinate with IT partners to test monthly OS and SQL patches, ensuring system integrity and security.
- Identify and remediate critical vulnerabilities across OS, middleware, applications, and firmware, maintaining a secure environment.
- Monitor application platforms for abnormalities, verifying the availability and performance of servers, systems, and network components.
- Review logs to troubleshoot issues, resolve technical problems, and optimize system performance.
- Manage application configurations, user access, and system updates in collaboration with vendors and internal teams.
- Conduct system testing, oversee vendor-led updates, and validate enhancements through user acceptance testing and scripting.
- Ensure seamless data integration between Facilities and university systems, supporting organizational readiness with training materials and communication strategies.
- Provide technical guidance to vendors and external consultants, maintaining service level agreements and ensuring project alignment.
- Partner with the Office of Information Technology to leverage shared infrastructure, security, and network services.
- Respond promptly to after-hours emergencies and incidents, ensuring minimal disruption to campus operations.
Project Leadership & Process Optimization (40%)
- Lead initiatives related to application onboarding, upgrades, and feature enhancements, ensuring projects meet scope, schedule, and quality standards.
- Document functional requirements, identify process gaps, and recommend scalable, reliable solutions.
- Collaborate with business owners to translate operational needs into technical specifications that ensure system stability and usability.
- Coordinate with internal teams and external vendors to address technical requirements, ensuring cohesive solution design and implementation.
- Promote inclusive participation and ownership in developing and deploying new solutions.
- Apply modern project management tools and methodologies to improve application performance and user experience.
- Gather comprehensive information from diverse sources, demonstrating persistence and analytical skills to resolve complex technical challenges.
Stakeholder Engagement & Strategic Communication (25%)
- Build and maintain effective relationships with campus stakeholders, including facilities staff, IT teams, and external partners.
- Facilitate meetings to align priorities, resolve issues, and communicate project statuses effectively.
- Translate technical information into clear, understandable language for non-technical audiences.
- Evaluate and synthesize information from multiple sources to accurately identify business needs and technical requirements.
- Create comprehensive technical documentation, workflows, and training materials to support system adoption and ongoing maintenance.
- Manage multiple projects and support activities concurrently, exercising sound judgment and prioritization skills.
- Stay informed of emerging technologies and industry best practices, recommending cost-effective, user-centric solutions to enhance campus safety and operations.
