About The Role

Princeton University is seeking a dedicated and experienced Facilities Technology Analyst to join its Life Safety Technology Service team. Under the guidance of the Manager of Life Safety Technology Service, this role is pivotal in overseeing the administration, deployment, and support of applications within the Facilities Technology portfolio. The successful candidate will collaborate closely with various university departments, external vendors, and IT partners to deliver innovative technical solutions that enhance operational efficiency, safety, and service delivery across campus facilities.

This position involves leading cross-functional projects, translating complex business needs into scalable and reliable system designs, and ensuring the security, stability, and usability of facilities-related applications. The role requires a strategic mindset, technical expertise, and a proactive approach to continuous improvement, supporting a broad spectrum of systems including life safety, electronic access, fire alarm monitoring, and video surveillance. The analyst will play a critical role in maintaining system integrity, supporting upgrades and enhancements, and fostering effective stakeholder engagement to meet the university’s operational goals.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of 5+ years of relevant work experience, including at least 3+ years in leading technical oversight of third-party applications, server administration, and network connectivity.
  • Proven expertise in providing technical governance for third-party applications, including break/fix support, vulnerability remediation, monitoring, and performance optimization.
  • Hands-on experience with server operating systems such as Windows (R2022 and newer) and Linux distributions like OpenSUSE and Red Hat, along with databases including SQL Server 2019+ and Oracle 19c.
  • Proficiency in scripting and automation using SQL and PowerShell to streamline routine tasks and develop solutions.
  • Strong troubleshooting skills for addressing security vulnerabilities, system failures, and performance issues identified through system monitoring tools.
  • Experience managing application integrations utilizing tools such as ODBC, SDKs, and APIs.
  • Knowledge of facilities-related systems such as video surveillance, electronic access control, and fire alarm monitoring platforms.
  • Understanding of system testing, user acceptance testing (UAT), and release management processes.
  • Familiarity with IT service management frameworks like ITIL, along with proven project management and stakeholder engagement skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to create comprehensive documentation and deliver effective training.
  • Ability to work independently, solve complex problems, and prioritize multiple projects with minimal supervision.
  • High attention to detail, quality, and accuracy in all deliverables.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience.

Responsibilities

Technical & System Administration & Support (35%)

  • Provide server-level administration for applications in both production and testing environments, including configuring performance monitoring, alerts, firewall rules, and access controls.
  • Coordinate and test monthly operating system and SQL patches in collaboration with IT partners to ensure system stability.
  • Identify and remediate critical vulnerabilities across OS, middleware, applications, and firmware to maintain security posture.
  • Monitor application platforms for abnormalities, verifying the integrity and availability of servers, systems, networks, and key processes.
  • Review logs to troubleshoot and resolve technical issues promptly, ensuring minimal disruption to services.
  • Administer applications, managing configurations and user access to support operational needs.
  • Conduct system testing, oversee vendor-led updates, and validate enhancements and modifications.
  • Develop and execute functional and user acceptance testing, including scripting and validation activities.
  • Ensure accurate data integration between Facilities and university systems to support operational workflows.
  • Contribute to organizational readiness by developing training materials and communication strategies for new system capabilities.
  • Provide technical guidance to vendors and consultants, maintaining service level agreements and ensuring quality standards.
  • Collaborate with the Office of Information Technology to leverage shared infrastructure, network, and security services.
  • Respond to after-hours emergencies and incidents to maintain system availability and safety.

Project Leadership & Process Optimization (40%)

  • Lead projects related to onboarding, upgrading, and enhancing facilities applications, ensuring timely and effective implementation.
  • Document and analyze functional requirements, identifying gaps and recommending scalable, sustainable solutions.
  • Work closely with business owners to translate operational needs into reliable technical specifications.
  • Coordinate with internal teams and external vendors to address technical requirements and ensure cohesive solution design.
  • Promote inclusive participation and ownership in the development and deployment of technical solutions.
  • Apply modern project management tools and methodologies to improve application usability, performance, and user experience.
  • Gather relevant information from diverse sources with persistence and analytical skills to inform project decisions.
