LexLabs is hiring on behalf of a prominent geotechnical, geo-environmental, materials engineering, special inspection, and construction engineering inspection (CEI/RTT) firm based in Atlanta, GA, with supporting offices in Nashville, TN and Charlotte, NC.
- Company: A leading Southeastern geotechnical & CEI/RTT firm (represented by LexLabs)
- Location: Atlanta, GA (supporting offices in Nashville, TN and Charlotte, NC)
- Department: Operations
- Reports To: VP Project Delivery
- About the Firm
- The firm is a geotechnical, geo-environmental, materials engineering, special inspection, and construction engineering inspection (CEI/RTT) provider serving public, private, and governmental clients throughout the Southeastern United States. Teams work daily with contractors, departments of transportation, manufacturers, utilities, developers, architects, and owners, generating and managing substantial volumes of field data, laboratory results, inspection reports, and project documentation. As the organization continues to grow, it is seeking a professional to help strengthen and connect the technology systems that support its operations.
- Position Summary
- The firm is seeking a Business & Technology Liaison to develop deep fluency in how engineering and construction operations function—from geotechnical field investigations through laboratory testing workflows and CEI/RTT inspection reporting—and to apply that understanding as the primary point of connection between internal teams (engineering, field and laboratory operations, project management, IT, and executive leadership) and the third‑party software vendors that support the firm's technology needs. These may include laboratory information management systems, field data collection platforms, project and document management tools, ERP and accounting systems, and GIS or mapping applications.
- This is a hybrid business analyst and technical relationship management role, well suited to a motivated early‑career professional or recent graduate. Software development experience is not required; however, the ideal candidate will be comfortable working with data and systems, eager to build skills in vendor relationship management and negotiation, and capable of translating effectively between business needs and technical capabilities as they grow into the role.
- Key Responsibilities
- Business and Operational Understanding
- Geotechnical workflow fluency — Understand geotechnical, geoenvironmental, materials testing, special inspection, and CEI/RTT workflows, terminology, deliverables, and challenges.
- Construction lifecycle understanding — Develop knowledge of construction project lifecycles, field/lab data flows, regulatory and DOT reporting requirements, and client deliverables.
- Cross‑Functional Coordination
- Internal stakeholder coordination — Serve as a connective point among engineering staff, field and laboratory technicians, project managers, accounting, and executive leadership.
- Requirements gathering — Document and prioritize requirements across teams with competing needs.
- Workflow gap analysis — Lead workshops to identify workflow gaps and translate them into actionable system requirements.
- Vendor and Technical Interface
- Vendor relationship management — Act as the principal point of contact for third‑party software vendors (LIMS, field apps, document/project management, ERP, GIS).
- Contract and negotiation support — Manage evaluations, demos, negotiations, renewals, and implementation timelines.
- Technical translation — Convert internal business needs into vendor‑actionable requirements and translate vendor constraints back to stakeholders.
- System implementation — Support configuration, rollout, and integration of new systems.
- Ongoing System Ownership
- Vendor performance monitoring — Track licensing, renewals, support, and roadmap alignment.
- Operational efficiency improvements — Identify opportunities to optimize existing tools or adopt new technologies.
- Documentation ownership — Maintain clear documentation of systems, workflows, integrations, and vendor relationships.
- Data Governance and Strategy
- Firm‑wide data strategy — Define and maintain consistent data capture, storage, and sharing practices.
- Data governance standards — Establish ownership, quality controls, naming conventions, and retention policies.
- Data quality oversight — Resolve inconsistencies across field/lab systems, project management tools, and reporting outputs.
- Data security & compliance — Ensure security and regulatory compliance for sensitive client, project, and DOT data.
- Data architecture evaluation — Serve as internal authority on data architecture when evaluating new vendor systems.
- Analytics enablement — Champion data use for operational and client‑facing insights.
- KPI & dashboard development — Partner with leadership to establish reporting dashboards.
Qualifications
- Required
- Bachelor’s degree in business, engineering, construction management, information systems, or related field.
- Strong analytical, problem‑solving, and communication skills.
- Proficiency with standard business software and ability to learn new systems quickly.
- Collaborative, curious, and willing to spend time in field and lab environments.
- Preferred
- Exposure to construction, civil engineering, AEC, materials testing, or DOT project environments.
- Experience in business analysis, vendor coordination, IT support, or customer‑facing roles.
- Familiarity with LIMS, QA/QC or inspection software, ERP, or GIS tools.
- Basic understanding of data concepts, spreadsheets, or databases.
- Success Criteria for the First Two Years
- Year One: Solid working knowledge of the firm’s service lines and workflows through onboarding, shadowing, and hands‑on involvement.
- Year Two: Ability to independently represent internal requirements to vendors and serve as a reliable point of contact for at least one vendor relationship.
- By End of Year Two: Contribution to at least one measurable process improvement or system implementation.
