Sustainability Project Engineer

  • We are seeking a Project Engineer III – Sustainability to support the planning, design, construction, and implementation of sustainability-focused capital improvement projects. This position will provide technical and project management support for energy efficiency, decarbonization, renewable energy, and infrastructure modernization initiatives within a large capital construction program.
  • The ideal candidate will have experience supporting public works, educational facilities, or large institutional projects and possess strong skills in construction administration, consultant coordination, project documentation, and sustainability-related infrastructure systems.
  • Key Responsibilities
  • Provide technical and engineering support to project and construction management teams throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Coordinate with project managers, contractors, architects, engineers, consultants, inspectors, and stakeholders.
  • Participate in design and construction meetings and assist with project coordination efforts.
  • Conduct field reviews to verify compliance with project plans, specifications, quality standards, and regulatory requirements.
  • Review construction documents, plans, shop drawings, RFIs, and submittals for conformance with project requirements.
  • Support the preparation of project reports, correspondence, meeting minutes, and status updates.
  • Review, negotiate, and process change orders, field directives, and contract modifications.
  • Monitor project risks and assist with the development and maintenance of risk registers and mitigation strategies.
  • Coordinate resolution of design and construction issues with project teams and consultants.
  • Review consultant and contractor invoices and support contract administration activities.
  • Maintain project files and records in electronic and hard-copy formats.
  • Assist in the preparation of scopes of work, procurement documents, board actions, and consultant solicitations.
  • Sustainability Project Experience Desired
  • Experience supporting one or more of the following project types:
  • Energy Information Systems (EIS)
  • LED Lighting Upgrades and Energy Efficiency Projects
  • Building Management Systems (BMS)
  • Central Plant Modernization and Decarbonization
  • Chiller and HVAC Infrastructure Upgrades
  • Renewable Energy Systems (Solar PV, Battery Energy Storage Systems, Microgrids)
  • Electric Vehicle Charging Infrastructure (EV Charging Stations)
  • Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Construction Management, Architecture, or a related field. Additional qualifying experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.
  • Minimum seven (7) years of experience supporting construction, engineering, or capital improvement projects.
  • Experience reviewing construction documents, coordinating project teams, and supporting construction administration activities.
  • Strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment.
  • Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience supporting educational, institutional, public works, or government-funded capital projects.
  • Familiarity with all phases of project delivery, including planning, design, construction, commissioning, and closeout.
  • Experience with sustainability, electrification, energy efficiency, or decarbonization initiatives.
  • Knowledge of construction contract administration, change management, and risk management processes.
  • Professional certifications such as PE, CCM, PMP, LEED AP, CEM, or similar credentials are highly desirable.
