Standardized Job Description:

Optomi, in partnership with a leading utility organization, is seeking a Shift Analyst / Support Analyst I to join its Integrated Command Center.

This position provides Tier 2 monitoring and operational support for critical enterprise infrastructure and data center environments. The analyst will proactively monitor Windows and Linux servers, virtualization, storage, networking, applications, and production batch processes while responding to incidents that could affect business operations.

This is not solely a traditional help-desk or end-user support position. We are specifically seeking someone with foundational infrastructure knowledge who can analyze alerts, troubleshoot server and application issues, document resolutions, and collaborate with technical teams during major incidents.

The team is open to early-career professionals who demonstrate hands-on technical aptitude, strong communication skills, and a genuine desire to learn.

Must-Haves:

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science or a related field plus one year of relevant experience
  • High school diploma or GED plus three years of relevant experience may be considered in place of the degree requirement
  • Foundational Windows Server administration or support experience
  • Basic Linux administration and troubleshooting experience
  • Experience monitoring or supporting servers and enterprise infrastructure
  • Strong analytical and technical troubleshooting abilities
  • Ability to clearly document problems, troubleshooting steps, and resolutions
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to collaborate effectively within a technical team
  • Willingness and ability to work a permanent 6:00 PM–6:00 AM rotating schedule, including weekends
  • Eligibility to obtain required NERC CIP access

Additional Experience:

  • VMware or other virtualization technologies
  • Citrix environments
  • UNIX server administration
  • UAC/Automic or other enterprise batch-scheduling and monitoring tools
  • Storage Area Network infrastructure
  • IIS, web, or middleware support
  • Enterprise infrastructure-monitoring platforms
  • Server patching and deployment support
  • Major incident response
  • Disaster recovery exercises
  • Infrastructure automation or scripting
  • Microsoft Office tools
  • Relevant technical internships, labs, coursework, or hands-on projects

Main Responsibilities:

  • Proactively monitor critical data center infrastructure and business applications
  • Provide Tier 2 support for Windows, Linux, storage, Citrix, IIS, web, middleware, and client-server environments
  • Investigate alerts, diagnose infrastructure issues, and coordinate escalations when necessary
  • Monitor, track, and modify production batch-job workflows
  • Perform server reboots and other approved operational support activities
  • Review and complete incidents, work orders, e-forms, and infrastructure-related requests
  • Assist with monthly server patch deployments
  • Support technical teams during major incidents and service disruptions
  • Participate in disaster recovery exercises and operational-readiness activities
  • Assist with planning and implementing changes to enterprise infrastructure
  • Develop and follow standardized operational processes and procedures
  • Identify opportunities to automate repetitive tasks and improve reliability
  • Participate in ongoing technical and process cross-training
  • Provide clear documentation and updates throughout incident resolution

What the Right Candidate Will Enjoy:

  • Monitoring and supporting critical enterprise technology in a 24/7 operational environment
  • Troubleshooting Windows and Linux servers and learning how large infrastructure environments operate
  • Gaining exposure to virtualization, storage, networking, middleware, and batch-processing technologies
  • Investigating alerts and resolving issues before they create wider business impact
  • Participating in major incident response and disaster recovery activities
  • Working closely with experienced infrastructure professionals
  • Learning new technologies through cross-training and hands-on problem-solving
  • Improving operational processes through documentation and automation
  • Taking ownership of issues and seeing them through to resolution
  • Developing a strong foundation for a career in infrastructure, cloud, systems administration, or technical operations
