You will bridge technical data science solutions with high-impact business needs by developing algorithms, predictive models, and data visualization tools. In this role, you will lead the end-to-end deployment of commercial analytics initiatives to discover actionable insights hidden in large datasets and translate them into measurable business outcomes. Your core objective will be to establish and execute an analytics roadmap for Hill’s Canada that directly elevates decision-making and accelerates business growth. The role reports to the Global Director of Business Analytics.
You will be a critical thought partner to Canadian commercial leadership, proactively identifying opportunities where analytics can unlock growth, improve profitability, and optimize customer experience.
This role requires a balance of hands-on analytics, strategic thinking, and people leadership, with significant exposure to senior stakeholders across Hill’s and the broader Colgate-Palmolive organization.
Responsibilities
- Analytics Translation & Strategy: Serve as the primary analytics translator to business decision-makers, defining commercial problems that can be solved with data, establishing project scope, and translating complex technical concepts to non-technical audiences. Provide people leadership to Canadian Data Analyst and Business Intelligence Engineer.
- Frame ambiguous business questions into structured analytical problems and define clear value driven business case and success metrics (KPIs) for each initiative.
- Influence strategic planning by providing data-backed recommendations on customer, channel, and brand performance.
- Model Development & Machine Learning: Lead the end-to-end design, development, and implementation of predictive models, machine learning algorithms, and data modeling techniques using Python, R, and SQL to address key business challenges.
- Apply advanced analytics techniques to inform pricing, promotion, assortment, and customer targeting decisions.
- Ensure model robustness through rigorous validation, performance monitoring, and continuous improvement.
- Roadmap Ownership & Project Leadership: Develop and execute the business analytics roadmap by prioritizing high-impact use cases, setting project timelines, and managing end-to-end analytics initiatives independently or with external partners.
- Data Visualization & Automation: Leverage data visualization platforms (e.g, Domo, Google Data Studio, Sigma) to build automated, simplified reporting tools and dashboards for strategic data sharing.
- Cross-Functional & Infrastructure Collaboration: Partner closely with cross-functional commercial teams (Sales and Marketing) and IT/Data Engineering to align on data architecture, pipeline integration, and quality assurance.
Required Qualifications
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Business Analytics, Statistics, Computer Science, Finance, Data Science, or a related quantitative field.
- Professional Experience: At least 5 years of hands-on experience in applied data analytics, commercial data modeling, and computer programming.
- Leadership Experience: At least 2 years of professional experience leading teams or cross-functional project execution.
- Technical Skills: Strong proficiency in SQL and hands-on coding experience in Python or R for data extraction, manipulation, and statistical modeling.
- Business Acumen: Demonstrated background in sales or marketing analytics with a strong ability to work with commercial stakeholders to solve ambiguous business problems.
- Excellent communication and data storytelling skills, including the ability to synthesize complex analyses into clear, concise insights and recommendations for senior leadership
Preferred Qualifications
- Industry Experience: Consumer Packaged Goods (CPG), retail, or commercial sales/marketing experience.
- Advanced Degree: Master’s degree in Business Analytics, Data Science, or another quantitative field.
- Advanced Technical Stack: Experience with cloud data environments (e.g., Google Cloud Platform, Snowflake), SAP enterprise systems, and data pipelines.
- Advanced Analytics Concepts: Familiarity with marketing mix modeling, churn risk prediction, causal inference, and customer lifetime value (CLV) techniques.
