Senior Software Developer, Platform Security and Data Governance

• Term: initial engagements of 6 to 12 months, aligned to project timelines, with potential for extension
• Compensation: $70 - $85 per hour

• The Opportunity
• We are growing our engineering team in anticipation of government-funded R&D in defence and security data governance. The work builds on the access control and audit foundations of our platform, extending them into policy-aware data enforcement: services that decide in real time what data may be seen, shared, or combined, and that keep a complete, verifiable record of every decision.

As Senior Software Developer, you will carry real design authority for that enforcement layer: high-assurance backend services where correctness, auditability, and fail-closed behaviour come first.

A note on timing: this posting supports our talent pipeline for anticipated project work under a Government of Canada defence innovation program. Hiring and start dates for project-funded positions are contingent on program decisions, and we will be transparent about timelines throughout the process.

• Key Responsibilities
• Design and build real-time policy enforcement services on top of a production access control layer, evaluating data classification and releasability rules at the moment of access.
• Engineer audit and provenance capabilities with strong transactional guarantees, so every decision is recorded completely and can be independently verified.
• Work deeply in SQL and distributed transactional systems, including schema design, isolation levels, indexing, and performance under strict correctness requirements.
• Ship and operate containerized Node.js services on a platform designed to deploy across cloud, dedicated, and on-premises environments.
• Help set the engineering bar on a small senior team through design reviews, testing discipline, and decisions grounded in measured evidence.

• Minimum Qualifications
• 5+ years building and operating production backend services, with strong Node.js experience.
• Deep, hands-on knowledge of SQL and transactional systems: isolation levels, consistency, indexing, query performance.
• A security-minded engineering approach: fail-closed defaults, least privilege, careful treatment of edge cases and failure modes.
• Strong testing discipline and clear written technical communication.

• Preferred Qualifications
• Experience with authorization systems and policy models (RBAC, ABAC) or other access control infrastructure.
• Distributed SQL databases (we use CockroachDB), event streaming (we use Pulsar), Redis.
• Multi-tenant platforms and tenant or data isolation.
• English and French bilingualism.
• Eligibility for Government of Canada security screening.
