Senior Project Manager - Data Center Mechanical Systems

Full Time · In Office · USA

Company Overview

Flexnode is the industrialized platform for AI infrastructure, engineered for distributed inference at scale. We bring a manufacturing and logistics approach to confront the largest capital deployment in peacetime history, where traditional construction methods cannot keep up. We value forward-thinking, comfort in finding new solutions to new challenges, autonomous ownership, rigorous organization, open feedback, and strong collaboration as we help shape the future of AI infrastructure.

Position Summary

As Flexnode’s Senior Project Manager - Mechanical Systems, you’ll serve as the owner-side lead for mechanical systems across Flexnode’s high-density AI and HPC data center deployments. You’ll define our cooling strategy, with an emphasis on direct liquid cooling, and guide its implementation from initial site diligence through operational handoff.

This role is suited to a creative, technically grounded problem solver who can move between cooling-system detail and portfolio-level delivery. You’ll direct engineering consultants and work with Flexnode’s Product and Growth teams, executives, customers, manufacturing and construction partners to align product, commercial, and execution requirements across concurrent workstreams. You’ll create the structure and accountability needed to resolve project challenges and turn site-specific decisions into consistent, scalable improvements to the NX platform

Responsibilities

  • ● Define and coordinate cooling and mechanical systems for high-density AI workloads, including heat rejection, HVAC, liquid-cooling interfaces, water distribution, and equipment integration.
  • ● Manage engineering consultants and other delivery partners through clear scopes, deliverables, and accountability; drive timely technical decisions and review designs for performance, constructability, maintainability, cost, schedule, and product alignment.
  • ● Coordinate each deployment from site diligence through operational handoff, integrating design and permitting with factory production, procurement, and site execution.
  • ● Own the interfaces between factory-built modules and site-installed systems, standardizing mechanical criteria and incorporating project decisions and lessons into the product logic.
  • ● Own integrated delivery plans and schedules across projects, sites, and partners, defining milestones, dependencies, owners, decision points, and critical paths.
  • ● Establish repeatable project controls that clarify ownership and accountability; maintain action, decision, risk, and change records, identify slippage early, and drive resolution or recovery.
  • ● Support Supply Chain team in developing and maintaining project cost models, validating vendor and construction pricing, and tracking assumptions, changes, contingencies, and unresolved commercial exposure.
  • ● Support Supply Chain team in managing the procurement of mechanical and other long-lead equipment from selection and submittal through release and delivery, ensuring alignment with project requirements and timelines.
  • ● Translate customer requirements and commercial commitments into executable scopes and technical decisions, providing clear delivery assumptions and diligence materials to Growth, customers, investors, and leadership.
  • Required Qualifications / Skills
  • ● Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a closely related engineering discipline focused on HVAC, thermal or energy systems; equivalent relevant work experience may be considered.
  • ● 7+ years of experience in project management, mechanical engineering, construction, or MEP delivery for data centers, mission-critical or industrial facilities, modular construction, or related infrastructure.
  • ● Experience managing multiple complex projects, technical disciplines, external partners, and concurrent workstreams.
  • ● Mechanical engineering experience or substantial hands-on coordination of cooling, HVAC, heat rejection, mechanical distribution, and equipment integration for liquid-cooled, high-density compute environments.
  • ● Working knowledge of mechanical design, modeling, and documentation in Revit; familiarity with SolidWorks, Rhino, FabMEP, or related tools is a plus.
  • ● Strong experience with integrated schedules, cost estimating and buildups, procurement tracking, change management, and schedule risk.
  • ● Ability to identify risks, dependencies, and unresolved decisions before they become schedule or cost problems.
  • ● Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including meeting leadership and clear project documentation.
  • ● Highly organized, self-directed, and comfortable creating structure in a fast-moving startup environment.
  • ● Willingness to travel to project sites, partner facilities, customer meetings, and factories as needed.
  • Preferred Qualifications
  • ● Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Construction Management, Architecture, or a related field; PE license, PMP certification, or equivalent project-delivery experience.
  • ● Experience with design for manufacture and assembly, prefabrication, factory production, or modular building systems.
  • ● Experience with general contractors, EPC firms, construction managers, developers, factory partners, or equipment manufacturers.
  • ● Familiarity with Smartsheet or similar scheduling and project-management tools; ACC, Procore, or related platforms.
  • ● Experience with project controls, earned-value tracking, risk registers, change orders, commissioning, customer or investor diligence, technical sales, or infrastructure partnerships.
  • ● Experience working in a fully remote, cross-functional team.
