Work on the cutting edge of AI, on your own schedule, and get paid for the machine-learning expertise you already have.

The AI systems everyone is talking about are trained and tested by real machine-learning engineers. The teams building them need people who can create difficult, realistic engineering tasks, judge how well an AI system handles them, write the implementation a strong engineer would produce, and explain exactly where the system falls short. Your technical judgment becomes part of how the next generation of AI models works. This is that work, done remotely around your current job.

  • What you'll do
  • • Create and solve challenging machine-learning tasks involving model development and training or inference systems
  • • Review model components and reproducible workflows to judge whether the implementation is correct
  • • Write reference implementations and objective checks for evaluation systems
  • • Explain numerical and system-level failures clearly so the team can improve the model or implementation
  • Why this is worth your time
  • • Get paid the equivalent of $60–$120 an hour to build real AI skills, on top of your current job
  • • Work directly with frontier AI tools and see how they are built, tested and improved, experience most machine-learning engineers will not have for years
  • • Build a career edge for what comes next: AI is reshaping machine-learning engineering, and the people who understand it from the inside will lead that change
  • • Fully remote, fully flexible, no minimum shift, no commute
  • Who this is for
  • • A Master's or PhD degree focused on computer science, machine learning, artificial intelligence, applied mathematics, statistics, engineering, or another quantitative field closely related to these areas
  • • Strong professional or research experience building machine-learning systems, with depth in numerical computing, performance optimization or inference workflows
  • • Fluent English, with practical proficiency in Python and coding agents
  • • No experience in AI training work needed. You bring the expertise; we bring the training on the tools.
  • Pay and details
  • • $60–$120 per hour equivalent; pay is per accepted task, as an independent contractor
  • • About 15 hours a week, you choose when; fully remote, United States
  • How to apply
  • 1. Apply on OpenTrain (about two minutes; upload your resume).
  • 2. Complete a short application on the hiring platform.
  • 3. If shortlisted, take a conversational AI interview with technical questions and a coding challenge, whenever it suits you. Most people hear back within days.
