We are seeking a Senior Financial Analyst to provide advanced accounting, financial analysis, reconciliation, reporting, and compliance support within a complex public-sector environment. The successful candidate will have a strong technical accounting background and experience independently managing complex financial transactions, reconciliations, journal entries, month-end and year-end activities, audit support, and financial reporting.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform complex account reconciliations, financial analysis, and journal entries.
- Support monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reporting, including month-end and year-end close activities.
- Review financial transactions for accuracy, completeness, and compliance with applicable policies and accounting standards.
- Investigate and resolve accounting, reporting, and financial system issues.
- Monitor and analyze accounts receivable, revenue, payroll-related transactions, and inter-unit accounts.
- Support internal and external audits by preparing documentation, reconciliations, and working papers.
- Identify financial risks, control gaps, and opportunities for process improvement.
- Develop and maintain financial procedures, documentation, and reporting tools.
- Provide technical guidance on accounting standards, financial policies, legislation, procedures, and internal controls.
- Support financial system enhancements, process improvements, and other operational initiatives.
- Perform data analysis and profiling to support financial reporting and decision-making.
- Work with internal stakeholders and government/central agencies to ensure financial accountability and compliance.
- Independently manage competing priorities while exercising sound professional judgment.
Required Qualifications
Must-Have
- 5+ years of experience applying accounting principles and accounting standards or equivalent.
- 5+ years of experience using advanced Microsoft Excel, including tools such as Pivot Tables, VLOOKUP, Advanced formulas and data analysis
- 4+ years of experience performing data analysis and data profiling techniques.
- 4+ years of experience with financial reporting, ensuring the accuracy, completeness, and integrity of financial information.
- 4+ years of experience working with SharePoint Online.
- Demonstrated experience in financial operations, accounting, reconciliations, and reporting.
- Strong understanding of internal controls, financial compliance, and audit requirements.
- Ability to analyze complex financial information and identify discrepancies, risks, and opportunities for improvement.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities in a remote environment.
Nice-to-Have
- CPA designation.
- Post-secondary education in Accounting, Business Administration, Finance, or a related field.
- 3+ years of experience with financial audits, financial controls, and/or financial compliance.
- 4+ years of experience using ERP systems, such as SAP.
- 3+ years of experience working with accounting systems, including process development, budget management, and financial operations.
- 4+ years of experience accurately calculating, posting, correcting, and managing accounting figures and transactions.
- Experience supporting process improvement initiatives.
- Experience working in a public-sector or government environment.
