Hiring Senior Financial Analyst – Public Sector | Remote in Edmonton, Alberta| Contract
Stafingo is hiring for its client in Ontario for an experienced Senior Financial Analyst to support complex financial operations, reporting, accounting, compliance, and process improvement initiatives within a public-sector environment.
This is an excellent opportunity for a finance professional with strong technical accounting skills, advanced Excel capabilities, and experience working independently with financial systems, reconciliations, reporting, audits, and internal controls.

- Pay Range: $60.00/hr T4 – $75.00/hr INC

- Work Location Requirement: Remote; work must be performed within Alberta

About the Role :
- The Senior Financial Analyst will provide advanced accounting and financial analysis support across a complex organization. The successful candidate will work closely with finance leadership, internal stakeholders, and central agencies to ensure financial information is accurate, timely, compliant, and well controlled.
- The role requires a high degree of independence, analytical thinking, professional judgment, and the ability to manage competing priorities while supporting ongoing financial operations and improvement initiatives.
Key Responsibilities :
- Perform complex account reconciliations, financial analysis, and journal entries.
- Support month-end, quarter-end, and year-end financial activities.
- Prepare and review financial reports, working papers, and supporting documentation.
- Review transactions for accuracy, completeness, and compliance with applicable policies and standards.
- Analyze accounts receivable, revenue, payroll-related transactions, and inter-unit accounts.
- Investigate and resolve accounting and financial-system discrepancies.
- Support internal and external audit activities.
- Identify financial risks, control gaps, and opportunities for process improvement.
- Develop and maintain financial procedures, documentation, and reporting tools.
- Guide accounting policies, standards, legislation, controls, and financial procedures.
- Support financial-system enhancements and process-improvement initiatives.
- Collaborate with finance teams, business stakeholders, and other organizational partners.
Required Qualifications :
- The ideal candidate will have:
- Strong experience in financial analysis and accounting operations.
- Demonstrated experience with reconciliations, journal entries, financial reporting, and month/year-end processes.
- Strong understanding of accounting principles and internal controls.
- Experience reviewing financial transactions for accuracy and compliance.
- Experience supporting audits and financial working papers.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and critical-thinking skills.
- Ability to work independently and exercise sound professional judgment.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Advanced Microsoft Excel skills.
- Experience working with ERP or financial systems.
- Experience interpreting and applying financial policies, procedures, legislation, and accounting standards.
Preferred Experience :
- Preference may be given to candidates with:
- Public-sector or government financial experience
- Experience with ERP implementations or financial-system enhancements
- Experience developing financial procedures and process documentation
- Experience identifying and remediating financial control gaps
- Experience with process improvement and operational efficiency initiatives
- Experience working with large, complex organizations and multiple stakeholders
Work Environment :
This is primarily a remote position. Candidates must be located in Alberta and perform the work from within Alberta.
Most work will be performed using Microsoft Teams, Excel, SharePoint, and related enterprise systems. The successful contractor is responsible for providing their own computer and home-office equipment compatible with the required remote-access environment.
Occasional onsite meetings or work sessions may be required based on business needs.
