Senior Financial Analyst – Banking / Financial Services

About the Role

We are seeking a detail-oriented and analytical Senior Financial Analyst to support financial planning, reporting, forecasting, and performance analysis within a banking or financial services environment. This role will partner closely with finance, accounting, operations, risk, and business leadership teams to provide insights that support strategic decision-making, regulatory awareness, and financial performance management.

The ideal candidate has strong experience in financial analysis, budgeting, forecasting, variance analysis, management reporting, and banking/financial services operations.

  • Key Responsibilities
  • Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports, including variance analysis, trend analysis, and commentary for management.
  • Support budgeting, forecasting, and long-range planning processes across business units.
  • Analyze revenue, expenses, margins, KPIs, and business performance drivers.
  • Partner with internal stakeholders to explain financial results and provide actionable insights.
  • Develop financial models to support scenario analysis, business cases, cost optimization, and strategic initiatives.
  • Monitor financial performance against budgets, forecasts, and prior periods.
  • Support month-end and quarter-end close activities, including accruals, reconciliations, journal entry review, and reporting packages.
  • Assist with regulatory, compliance, audit, and internal control reporting requirements as needed.
  • Prepare executive-level dashboards, presentations, and ad hoc financial analysis.
  • Identify process improvement opportunities in reporting, forecasting, and financial controls.
  • Work with large datasets from ERP, banking, reporting, and business intelligence systems.
  • Ensure accuracy, completeness, and timeliness of financial reporting deliverables.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, Business, or a related field.
  • CPA, CFA, MBA, or progress toward a professional designation is preferred.
  • 5+ years of progressive experience in financial analysis, FP&A, accounting, or financial reporting.
  • Experience in banking, financial services, insurance, lending, wealth management, capital markets, or a regulated financial environment is strongly preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of budgeting, forecasting, variance analysis, financial modeling, and management reporting.
  • Solid understanding of financial statements, month-end close, accruals, reconciliations, and internal controls.
  • Advanced Excel skills, including complex formulas, pivot tables, lookups, and financial modeling.
  • Experience with ERP, financial reporting, or BI tools such as SAP, Oracle, Hyperion, Workday, Power BI, Tableau, SQL, or similar systems.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to present financial insights to non-finance stakeholders.
  • High attention to detail, strong analytical judgment, and ability to work with confidential financial information.

Preferred Experience

  • Prior experience supporting banking products, lending portfolios, deposits, treasury, risk, regulatory reporting, or financial institution operations.
  • Experience with KPI dashboards, profitability analysis, cost allocation, or business unit performance reporting.
  • Exposure to OSFI, regulatory reporting, SOX, audit support, or internal controls.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, deadline-driven financial services environment.
