Position Summary

The Senior Financial Analyst supports the financial integrity and accountability of the organization by overseeing capital expenditure tracking, financial reporting, and audit processes. This role is responsible for preparing monthly financial statements, monitoring capital budgets, maintaining lease schedules, and supporting treasury and cash flow functions.

The position plays a key role in ensuring compliance with GAAP principles, hospital policies, and external reporting requirements. It also contributes to the annual audit process, including preparation of lead schedules and coordination of inventory counts.

Additionally, the Senior Financial Analyst develops and maintains financial models, reporting tools, and analytical frameworks to support informed business decision-making, while identifying opportunities to strengthen internal controls and streamline financial processes.

Primary Responsibilities

Capital Monitoring & Reporting:

  • Managing the annual capital budgeting process
  • Monitoring monthly capital expenditures and preparing variance reports
  • Tracking capital spending against approved budgets and Ministry, other sources of funding
  • Maintaining lease schedules and ensuring lease-related financial compliance
  • Preparing Hospital Infrastructure Renewal Funding and Capital Expenditure Survey submissions

Commercial Leases

  • Monitoring commercial lease agreements to ensure annual lease increases and notifications align with contract terms
  • Completing MPAC reporting requirements for buildings/property taxation purposes
  • Entry, reconciliation, monitoring of 3rd party property management financials

Month End Processes

  • Preparing monthly journal entries, including prepaid contracts, ensuring alignment with policies and processes
  • Completing monthly reconciliations
  • Managing Capital Invoicing to Foundation and related reconciliations

Financial Statement Reporting, Annual Audit, & Other Reporting

  • Preparing monthly financial statements, Foundation and/or BCHS
  • Supporting year-end financial statement preparation
  • Assisting with annual external audits

  • Reliable individual with excellent attendance record and able to work all shifts
  • Understanding of MIS Standards is considered an asset
  • Safety (patient, worker & workplace) is a BCHS Corporate Priority. The successful applicant will demonstrate good stewardship in the identification, reporting and mitigation of unsafe acts or conditions.

Education Requirements

  • Graduate of a Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting required
  • Professional CPA designation required/in progress (candidate enrolled in later stages of program preferred)

Mandatory Qualifications

  • Minimum of 4 years prior experience in financial accounting, capital finance, budgeting, forecasting, and financial reporting, including month-end and year-end processes experience working in a Hospital setting or relevant/transferable experience
  • Required experience with:
  • Financial statement preparation
  • Month-end/year-end processes

  • Capital asset accounting
  • Healthcare or public-sector funding/reporting
  • Excellent computer skills and knowledge in financial software and reporting programs (Microsoft Office, MS 365, Meditech, World Software ESM)
