Senior Finance Analyst — Internal Audit, Legal Billing & Insurance Recovery | New York, NY | In-Office, 5 Days a Week | Music, Sports & Entertainment
Compensation : $110,000 to $130,000 base, plus discretionary bonus.
- Our client, One of the most recognizable names in music, sports and entertainment is building out a newly created seat on its finance team. You'll report directly to the VP of Finance, with real visibility to the CFO from month one.
- This isn't a compliance-only audit job. You'll own testing and controls work, but you'll also sit at the intersection of finance, legal and risk, reviewing outside counsel invoices, managing legal spend, and chasing insurance recoveries that can take months to close. The role is built to widen into broader commercial finance work as you prove yourself. If you're looking for a way out of the pure testing treadmill and into a real business, this is it.
- What you'll actually do
- Review and validate outside counsel invoices against engagement letters and billing guidelines.
- Serve as the primary finance liaison with insurance carriers, brokers, and third-party administrators on claims for reimbursable legal expenses
- Catch errors and non-compliant charges, and negotiate adjustments with law firms directly.
- Own the insurance recovery pipeline end to end: prepare and submit claims, chase carriers and brokers, reconcile recoveries, and make sure everything lands correctly in the general ledger.
- Support internal audit work across the business: transaction testing, control walkthroughs, documentation of findings, and help build out the policies behind legal spend and recovery.
- Get involved in commercial contract review, flagging financial risk in payment terms, indemnification and insurance requirements before they become a problem.
What gets you hired
- A bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance, and experience in audit, internal controls, legal billing, insurance claims, or accounting.
- A Big 4 or top-ten audit background is a strong fit, as is a second-year in-house internal auditor ready for more responsibility.
- You need real controls depth: transaction sampling, documentation, walkthroughs. And you need accrual and GL fluency, because you're posting the recovery, not just chasing it.
- Persistence matters more than people think. Insurance recoveries run over long timelines against carriers and brokers who won't chase themselves.
Prior exposure to legal invoices, e-billing, contract financial terms, or claims work is a plus, not a requirement. You'll be taught the insurance side.
