Role Description The Senior Data Engineer will play a key role in designing, building, and maintaining data infrastructure that supports The Age Of Africa’s research, event analytics, and strategic decision-making. This part-time remote role involves developing robust data pipelines, implementing ETL processes, and ensuring reliable data integration from multiple internal and external sources. The Senior Data Engineer will collaborate with program, research, and operations teams to design data models and warehouses that enable accurate reporting on delegates, sessions, and engagement metrics. Daily tasks include optimizing data workflows, monitoring data quality, troubleshooting issues, and contributing to documentation and best practices for data management. The person in this role will also help translate analytical needs into scalable technical solutions, supporting insights into Africa-focused global trends and audience behavior.
Qualifications
Candidates should possess strong data engineering skills, including experience with scalable data pipelines and modern data infrastructure.
Candidates should possess skills in data modeling and data warehousing to design and maintain structures that support reporting and analytics.
Candidates should possess skills in Extract Transform Load (ETL) processes and data integration from diverse sources.
Candidates should possess skills in data analytics to interpret event data, generate insights, and support evidence-based decisions.
Proficiency in at least one modern programming language used for data engineering (e.g., Python, Scala, or Java) and SQL.
Experience with cloud-based data platforms and tools (e.g., AWS, Azure, GCP, or equivalent) and version control systems.
Strong attention to detail, commitment to data quality, and ability to work independently in a remote, part-time setting.
Bachelor’s or master’s degree in Computer Science, Data Engineering, Information Systems, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
Interest in global affairs and Africa’s role in international systems is highly beneficial.
