Senior Business Analyst

Job Summary

This highly visible position within the PEMEX Deer Park Refinery Business Analysis and Planning Team shall be a thought leader responsible for three key deliverables:

Leading the development of long-term strategic asset management and annual business plans.

Coordinating external benchmarking studies, performing competitive analysis, and extracting insights to influence strategic development.

Working closely with refinery Economics & Scheduling, Technology, Engineering, Operations, and Finance teams to conduct margin analyses.

The Business Performance Analyst within the Business Analysis and Planning Team must work effectively with diverse customers, including the Executive Team, Senior Management Group, and multidisciplinary front-line leadership teams to deliver successful projects. This role provides an excellent opportunity for a high-performing individual to gain a broad overview of all aspects of the refining business and be exposed to various cross-functional professionals and leaders.

Accountabilities & Responsibilities:

Lead coordination of PEMEX Deer Park Refinery’s external competitive benchmarking data collection and submission with third-party consulting companies

Assess competitive benchmarking results and perform deep-dive data analyses to generate actionable insights for improvement of refinery performance on various key performance indicators

Develop competitive intelligence communication materials and present them to cross-functional teams

Identify gaps and areas for improvement to capture money left on the table and champion gap closure

Coordinate compilation of annual refinery business plan forecast, provide plan operationalization support to Finance

Develop strategic narratives around crucial business performance indicators, monitor, and track performance against business plan

Lead margin analysis, connecting actual results to choices made, causally identifying gaps, and communicating actionable insights on opportunities for improvement

Perform ad-hoc margin analysis and competitive benchmarking data deep dives to test hypotheses and support the refinery Executive Team in developing strategic insights

Develop refinery performance management key performance indicator dashboard and monthly communications for leadership review

Qualifications:

Strong communication skills and ability to work with cross-functional stakeholders

Strong problem-solving / root cause analysis skills

Strong leadership and organizational skills

Expert in data analysis techniques using MS Excel and knowledgeable in data visualization with MS Power-BI

Excellent growth mindset, commercial acumen, and big-picture focus

Strong verbal and written communication, including MS PowerPoint

Broad awareness of industry best practices, standards, limitations, and operating policies

Familiarity with or ability to quickly learn and utilize optimization models (i.e., Refinery Linear Program “LP” model)

Job Knowledge, Skills & Experience

Education and Experience:

Bachelor of Science degree in engineering

Process Engineering, Process Safety, or Process Control background

Minimum of 5 years’ experience in a Refinery, Chemical plant, or similar asset
