Platform Engineering Junior Full-Time
About The Role
ACPWB's Platform Engineering team is looking for a Senior BI Developer who takes genuine ownership of the employee data warehouse. This is not a break-fix role or a ticket queue. You will work in PowerShell and Azure Active Directory, contribute to the data engineering and pipeline development agenda, and collaborate closely with analysts and advisors who need technology that simply works. We have a small, excellent team. We are looking for someone who fits.
The Senior BI Developer role in ACPWB's Platform Engineering group is for someone who finds real satisfaction in making complex systems work well. You will take responsibility for data engineering and pipeline development using PowerShell and Azure Active Directory on AWS and Snowflake, and your work will have immediate, visible impact on the quality and efficiency of ACPWB's analytical operations. We have 4 people on this team. Every contribution matters.
Key Responsibilities
- ◆ Develop and maintain BI dashboards and analytical reports for internal stakeholders using PowerShell and Azure Active Directory
- ◆ Collaborate with Information Security on vulnerability assessments, patching, and compliance audits
- ◆ Document system architecture, data models, and operational runbooks for the Platform Engineering team
- ◆ Monitor system health, troubleshoot issues, and respond to incidents with appropriate urgency and documentation
- ◆ Contribute to ACPWB's technical roadmap by identifying investment opportunities in data engineering and pipeline development
- ◆ Conduct performance analysis and capacity planning for the employee data warehouse to support firm growth
Qualifications
Required
- ◆ Experience with version control (Git), code review practices, and CI/CD pipelines
- ◆ Solid understanding of relational database design, SQL, and data modeling principles
- ◆ 3+ years of professional experience in software engineering, data engineering, or a closely related technical discipline
- ◆ Experience working in an Agile or iterative development environment
Preferred
- ◆ Prior involvement in technology selection or architectural decision-making in a professional context
- ◆ Experience with containerization and orchestration (Docker, Kubernetes)
- ◆ Background in application security including OWASP principles and secure development practices
- ◆ Experience building internal developer tooling or productivity infrastructure
- ◆ Experience with data orchestration tools such as Apache Airflow, Prefect, or equivalent
WHY ACPWB
ACPWB occupies a distinctive position: large enough to be credible, small enough to be agile, old enough to have a track record, young enough to still be building it. The people who thrive here find that combination energizing rather than disorienting.
ACPWB was founded in Milwaukee in 2006 with a simple mandate: help working Americans understand and advocate for the compensation they deserve. Eighteen years later, that mandate has grown into a full-service research and advisory practice serving clients from early-stage employers to Fortune 50 enterprises — and we are still based in Milwaukee, because Milwaukee is genuinely underrated.
INTERVIEW PROCESS
We use a structured, competency-based interview format with a standardized scoring rubric applied consistently across all candidates. This approach is less exciting than an unstructured conversation but more predictive and considerably fairer. Interviewers are trained on the rubric before they use it.
What Success Looks Like In Year One
- ◆ Identify and resolve at least one performance, security, or reliability gap in the existing infrastructure
- ◆ Develop a thorough working knowledge of the employee data warehouse architecture, data flows, and dependencies
- ◆ Demonstrate the ability to scope technical work accurately and deliver against that scope
- ◆ Build a productive working relationship with at least two non-engineering stakeholders who depend on the employee data warehouse
