- Job Summary
- This is a contract role supporting the SBLC/Guarantees team within Global Trade Finance Operations, covering a leave of absence on a team of 16. The primary function involves drafting, issuing, advising, and amending different types of SBLC/Guarantees and processing any other requests or correspondence regarding SBLC/Guarantees issued or advised. This is a hybrid role where the chosen individual will both work in administrative tasks and will also issue and advise new transactions and amendments as per the necessity of the team. Montreal (bilingual) is the preferred location, with Toronto as a second preference; Calgary and Vancouver are also a possibility. This position requires a minimum of 18 months commitment to the role.
- Key Responsibilities
- Reviewing text of guarantees requested by clients and providing comments either directly to clients or relationship managers
- Drafting, issuing, advising, and amending different types of SBLC/Guarantees and processing any other requests or correspondence regarding SBLC/Guarantees issued or advised
- Releasing transactions as per volumes and requirements of the team
- Delivering timely and efficient services as per Service Level Agreements (SLA)
- Prioritize, manage, and monitor day-to-day operations of the team and workflow and distribute daily requests among officers and ensure maximum efficiency
- Participate in monthly reporting and reconciliation tasks
- Ensure appropriate controls are in place to minimize risk
- Provide technical advice to clients/partners
- Ensure adherence to TD internal policies and regulatory guidelines
- Demonstrate strong process management skills
- Ensure consistency & accuracy of the process
- Identify potential risks and operational gaps; recommend and document resolutions
- Ensure due diligence is completed as part of all transactions, as per terms of the trade finance AML procedures
- Execute on ad-hoc requests
- Be available during some Canadian statutory holidays on a rotational basis in order to cover multiple province holidays, US & UK business
- Required Skills
- Trade Finance experience — Standby LC and Bank Guarantees
- AML (Anti-Money Laundering) knowledge
- Strong verbal and written communication skills — very important for this role
- Preferred Skills
- Knowledge of TF360
- Spanish language skills (would be an asset)
- Bilingual (English/French) — ideal, particularly for Montreal location
- Good knowledge of AML procedures and requirements (PCMLTFA/BSA)
- Excellent knowledge of Microsoft Office
- Bachelor's degree in finance, international business, or a related field
- Education Requirements
- Post-secondary education required
- Trade finance certifications: CSDG (top preferred certification); CDCS (second preferred)
- Required Experience
- 3 to 5 years of hands-on experience in trade finance, specifically within a Guarantees team in Global Trade Finance Operations
- Excellent understanding of International Chamber of Commerce (ICC) rules and practices applicable to the business (UCP 600, ISP 98, and URDG 758)
- In-depth knowledge of Global Trade Finance, including the operational context, business processes, and transaction lifecycle
- Proven client service and relationship management skills
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, dynamic environment
- Demonstrated teamwork aptitude
- Work Environment / Physical Requirements
- Hybrid schedule: first 3 months fully onsite for training; thereafter minimum 3 days per week in office
- Occasional overtime required, including availability on some Canadian statutory holidays on a rotational basis (to support US and UK clients)
- Candidate will have access to customer data
- Minimum 18-month commitment to the role required
