About ETR
Enterprise Technology Research (ETR), a subsidiary of the Futurum Group, is an independent research firm built on primary data. We draw on a network of 9,000+ technology decision-makers, controlling more than $2 trillion in annual IT spend, to track where technology budgets are heading. More than 100 of the world’s largest hedge funds and asset managers use our proprietary data and research to shape their investment decisions.
ETR’s flagship Technology Spending Intentions Survey (TSIS) is one of the longest-running and broadest data series in the industry, with uninterrupted coverage since 2010 spanning 330+ vendors across more than 20 technology sectors. We complement it with higher-frequency research: the AI Product Series, ETR Edge, Macro Views, and drill-down surveys on the topics investors are debating right now.
- ETR has the pace of an early-stage company and client relationships that go back more than a decade. We are investing in our research capabilities: growing the team, deepening our product suite, and expanding coverage into new layers of the technology stack.
- About the Role
ETR is adding a Research Analyst to our Analytics team, the group that designs our surveys and turns the resulting data into the research our clients trade on. Reporting directly to the head of our Analytics team, this is a hybrid analyst role: part data analyst, part research analyst, roughly 50% analytics, 40% research, and 10% commercially oriented work informed by what our clients need most.
You will own survey research on enterprise technology markets, spanning software, hardware, cloud, infrastructure, IT services, and semiconductors, and you will write the narrative research that financial analysts at the world’s top investment firms use to make investment decisions. You will not be client-facing day to day, but your work will be shaped by the market: client feedback reaches you through our research and client-facing teams, and staying attuned to what investors care about is central to doing the job well.
- This role suits someone with 3+ years of experience who knows the enterprise technology landscape, understands what separates a good survey question from a bad one, and is comfortable using code and AI tooling to move faster. It is a remote-friendly position open to candidates anywhere in the US.
- What You Will Do
- • Design surveys end to end. Take a research objective, conduct desk research to get up to speed on the topic and domain, and translate it into a well-constructed questionnaire, with clear, unbiased questions and a logical structure that yields data worth analyzing.
- • Turn data into insight. Combine survey results with outside context, including market news, earnings and financial data, and vendor developments, to author narrative research reports that explain what is happening and why it matters, not just "X% of respondents said Y."
- • Let the market steer the research. Incorporate client feedback, relayed through our client-facing teams, into survey design and research prioritization, and maintain a running sense of what investors and the market care about right now.
- • Build with modern tooling. Use Python, SQL, and LLM-based workflows for data processing, research synthesis, and drafting, and help the team keep improving how this work gets done.
- What We Are Looking For
In rough priority order:
- • Enterprise technology domain knowledge. You understand the space, the vendors, and the trends across software, hardware, cloud, infrastructure, IT services, and semis, and you can get smart fast on a sub-sector you have not covered before. This matters more than anything else.
- • Survey design skill. You know how to write a good question, how to avoid biasing a respondent, and how to structure a questionnaire so it flows logically and produces clean, analyzable data.
- • Programming ability. Working proficiency in Python and SQL, and comfort building and using LLM workflows for research synthesis, drafting, and data processing.
- • 3+ years of experience in market or industry research, equity research, data analysis, consulting, or a similar analytical role.
- • Strong analytical writing: you can move from a dataset to a clear, well-structured narrative that a professional investor finds useful.
- • Familiarity with how investors consume research, or experience serving financial services clients, is a plus.
- • A Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Economics, Statistics, a STEM field, or a related discipline, or equivalent practical experience.
- What We Offer
- • A competitive compensation package including base salary, comprehensive benefits, and the opportunity for a bonus.
- • Real ownership early: on a team our size, the surveys you design and the research you write are in front of clients and leadership immediately.
- • Direct mentorship from the Analytics, Research, and Data teams: you work together day to day, and your development and advancement are part of the role’s design.
- • Your work in the hands of some of the world’s most sophisticated investors, informed by the technology leaders shaping enterprise IT.
A remote-friendly, flexible working environment with a culture that values candor, curiosity, and collegiality over facetime and politics.
