Reporting & Power BI Developer

Position Overview:

We are seeking a Senior Reporting & BI Developer with 10+ years of experience in reporting, business intelligence, data modeling, and solution architecture. This role will lead the design and implementation of a large-scale reporting solution consisting of 200+ reports while recommending the optimal architecture, data structures, and delivery approach.

The ideal candidate has deep expertise in SQL, BI development, ETL/ELT processes, and data modeling, with experience evaluating and implementing scalable reporting platforms. While our preferred technology stack includes Power BI, SQL Server, and Microsoft Azure, we value a pragmatic, solution-focused professional who can recommend alternative approaches when appropriate. The resulting solution should be designed for scalability, maintainability, reuse, and may include supporting application development components such as .NET.

Duties:

• Review and assess existing reporting requirements and reporting frameworks.
• Analyze current data flows, data integration processes, and reporting architectures.
• Evaluate the effectiveness, scalability, and performance of existing reporting solutions.
• Recommend and design the reporting and data architecture needed to deliver 200+ reports at scale—which may or may not include a data warehouse—aligned with business objectives.
• Build and deliver the full reporting suite (200+ reports), establishing standards, templates, and reusable patterns for consistency and maintainability.
• Design the solution with broader reuse in mind, so that what is built can be retrofitted or adopted at the product or organization level.
• Choose the right approach for each problem and context, then build any supporting components the solution requires, which may include back-office development (e.g., .NET) alongside the reporting layer.
• Identify opportunities to improve report generation, data quality, performance, maintainability, and scalability.
• Assess ETL processes and recommend enhancements for data movement, transformation, and loading strategies.
• Evaluate alternative technologies, tools, and architectural approaches to support reporting and analytics initiatives.
• Collaborate with business stakeholders and technical teams to capture reporting requirements and align the delivery approach.
• Develop architecture recommendations, implementation roadmaps, and best practice guidelines.
• Document the solution—standards, patterns, and key decisions—so the team can maintain and extend the reporting suite after the engagement.
• Required Qualifications:
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or a related field.
• 10+ years of experience in reporting, business intelligence, data modeling, and solution/data architecture.
• Strong expertise in SQL and database design.
• Extensive experience with reporting and analytics solutions.
• Deep understanding of data modeling approaches (including dimensional modeling and data warehousing) and broader data-management principles, with the judgment to recommend the right approach for a given context.
• Strong knowledge of ETL concepts, tools, and data integration frameworks.
• Hands-on experience with cloud data and analytics platforms (for a Microsoft stack this typically means Azure and/or Microsoft Fabric).
• Experience conducting architecture reviews and recommending enterprise-scale solutions.
• Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
• An open-minded, pragmatic approach. Able to pick the right solution for the right problem and context rather than applying a one-size-fits-all answer.
• Experience working with cross-functional business and technical teams.
• Preferred Qualifications:
• Experience using AI tools to work more efficiently. For example, AI coding assistants (such as GitHub Copilot) or large language models for development, data, and documentation tasks, along with the curiosity to find new ways to apply them.
• Experience with .NET development and related technologies.
• Experience in the insurance industry, including reporting and data management
• processes.
• Experience with performance tuning and optimization of large-scale reporting environments.
