2. About the Opportunity:

The Public Health Analyst role supports the Overdose Response Strategy (ORS) by enhancing collaboration between public health and public safety agencies in Alabama. The position contributes to reducing drug overdose rates by developing information sharing systems and supporting evidence-based interventions, directly impacting the effectiveness of overdose prevention efforts.

3. Responsibilities:

  • • Facilitate data sharing and joint initiatives between public health and public safety agencies to address illicit drug use and overdose
  • • Collaborate with Drug Intelligence Officers to build partnerships between HIDTA programs and public health entities
  • • Identify and promote overdose prevention interventions at the intersection of public health and public safety
  • • Support and evaluate public safety-led interventions connecting individuals at risk to care and treatment
  • • Present overdose trends and local response efforts to diverse audiences
  • • Enhance collaborations through partner identification, data collection, and dissemination of findings
  • • Develop specialized knowledge of drug use and overdose trends in the assigned region
  • • Conduct data analyses and create visualizations on drug use and overdose trends as needed
  • • Provide technical assistance and support to community partners and connect them to resources
  • • Develop and conduct trainings on overdose prevention best practices
  • • Produce educational materials such as briefs, bulletins, reports, and brochures
  • • Support and evaluate public health and public safety interventions

4. Requirements:

  • • Minimum education and experience: Master’s degree in public health, social sciences, or a related field with at least 1 year of relevant experience; OR a Bachelor’s degree with 3 years; OR an Associate’s degree with 6 years; OR a high school diploma with 8 years of relevant experience
  • • Experience or interest in substance use disorder treatment, drug policy, or public health/public safety partnerships
  • • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including public speaking
  • • Ability to work independently and collaboratively
  • • Ability to engage effectively with diverse partners, including law enforcement
  • • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint
  • • Familiarity with the public health infrastructure of the assigned region
  • Preferred:
  • • Experience with data collection and analysis, quantitative skills, and familiarity with statistical software such as SAS, SPSS, or STATA preferred

5. Pay Range and Compensation Package:

• Salary range: $72,000 to $88,000 per year (based on education, experience, and qualifications)
