Role Description The Principal Data Engineer is a full-time, on-site role based in the Greater Seattle Area, responsible for leading the design, implementation, and optimization of Grant PUD’s data platforms and pipelines. This role oversees the development of scalable data architectures, collaborates with cross-functional teams to define data requirements, and ensures that data assets are reliable, secure, and accessible for analytics and reporting. Day-to-day tasks include building and maintaining ETL processes, modeling data for enterprise data warehouses and data lakes, and guiding best practices in data engineering across the organization. The Principal Data Engineer mentors other data professionals, drives continuous improvement of data quality and performance, and partners with stakeholders to support business intelligence, regulatory reporting, and advanced analytics initiatives.
Qualifications

Strong data engineering skills, including experience designing and building robust, scalable data solutions with the Microsoft stack. Azure, synapse, Fabric
Expertise in data modeling and data warehousing to support enterprise reporting and analytical workloads.
Hands-on proficiency with Extract Transform Load (ETL) processes and tools for integrating data from diverse sources.
Experience with data analytics, business intelligence, and enabling data-driven decision-making.
Advanced proficiency with modern data platforms and technologies (e.g., cloud data services, relational and T-SQL databases, streaming tools).
Solid understanding of data governance, security, and compliance, including data quality standards and metadata management.
Proven ability to lead complex technical initiatives, mentor team members, and collaborate effectively with technical and non-technical stakeholders.
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, or a related field; advanced degree or relevant certifications are beneficial.
Experience in the energy, utilities, or other highly regulated industries is a plus.
