Principal Backend Engineer – Rules Engine & Data Platform

We are seeking a highly experienced Senior Java Backend Engineer with 10+ years of hands-on software engineering experience to join our high-performing engineering team. This is a mission-critical role responsible for designing, optimizing, and modernizing large-scale backend platforms that power complex financial reporting, business rules processing, and enterprise data pipelines.

The ideal candidate has extensive experience building highly scalable distributed Java applications, optimizing complex SQL workloads, and developing enterprise-grade data processing solutions within FinTech, Banking, Capital Markets, or Financial Services environments.

We are looking for Engineers who can:

• Design, architect, and develop highly scalable enterprise-grade Java backend applications.
• Build and optimize large-scale Rules Engine platforms responsible for executing complex financial and business logic.
• Design highly available, fault-tolerant backend services capable of processing millions of transactions and records.
• Optimize application performance across Java services, databases, APIs, and distributed data pipelines.
• Develop and maintain high-throughput ETL and data processing frameworks.
• Tune complex SQL queries, stored procedures, indexing strategies, and database execution plans for maximum performance.
• Build scalable reporting and reconciliation platforms supporting regulatory and operational reporting.
• Design cloud-native solutions leveraging AWS services.
• Work closely with Architects, Product Managers, Business Analysts, and Executive Leadership to translate business requirements into scalable technical solutions.
• Participate in architecture discussions, design reviews, and technical strategy sessions.
• Lead production troubleshooting, root cause analysis, and performance optimization initiatives.
• Mentor junior and mid-level engineers while driving engineering best practices.
• Champion clean architecture, reusable frameworks, coding standards, CI/CD automation, and DevOps practices.
• Drive modernization initiatives for legacy enterprise applications into scalable cloud-based platforms.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science (or equivalent experience).
• 12+ years of professional software engineering experience with a strong focus on enterprise backend development.
• Expert-level Java development experience (Java 8/11/17+).
• Extensive experience with Spring Boot, Spring Framework, RESTful APIs, and Microservices Architecture.
• Strong expertise in Object-Oriented Design, Design Patterns, Multithreading, Concurrency, Collections, and JVM Performance Tuning.
• Extensive experience building and maintaining large-scale Rules Engine or Decision Engine platforms.
• Strong experience developing enterprise-grade financial reporting and transaction processing systems.
• Expert knowledge of SQL optimization, execution plans, indexing strategies, and query tuning.

• Experience with Git, Maven, Gradle, Jenkins, and CI/CD pipelines.
• Excellent debugging, profiling, and production support experience.
